They are both excellent bikes, but I personally perfer Treks. Of course I'm a little biased as I worked at a Trek store for a year and a half. But i have always felt that the geometry of the specialized just feels a little goofy, not quite as responsive as the trek geometry. All comes down to a test ride.
What type of riding will you be doing? Group rides or racing? |

I would take the Trek over the Specialized, but I don't think they went far enough with the new Madone models. The Project One program is nice, with custom paint. What kind of riding will you be doing?
I have a Trek 5200 OCLV with Ultegra, and I was thinking about a Madone 6.5 Performance last year, but have now decided that my next bike will be a Cervelo. Great engineering, and winning lots of races. The Got To Have It factor is very high. I don't need the aero model (S2) so will go with an RS built up with either '09 Dura Ace or Ultegra SL, and custom wheels. Take a look at their site, and read up on them. See how they placed at the Olympics. Cervelo

I don't race, i do a lot of riding by myself on city streets and the Zertz inserts had appeal. The shop will sell the Trek (full Ultegra) for $3,000. They will build the Roubaix PRO with last years Dura Ace for $3,700.
I have nice Lemonds with 853 steel and full Ultegra which is still in great shape; maybe I will just wait $3,500+/- is a lot of money to steep up to Carbon.

If U R going from steel frame to carbon, you will notice the difference in the ride, its night and day ........Cevelo & Scott ...are nice frames....

I agree with sleepless.
The difference between steel and carbon will blow you away, from the ride quality to the responsiveness. It would always blow my mind when I would put the hammer down on a high end carbon and it felt like it amplified my efforts 10 fold. And i've never been convinced the zertz does all that much. |

This looks like a deal, but probably not the best street bike
Cervelo Cervelo P3 Carbon Dura-Ace 2008 Bike - R&A Cycles Cevelo does seem to be the hot brand.

The Madone is expensive if you go to the top end, but I am referring to the design/engineering features, not the price. Trek had a lot of catching up to do a few years back, and they came back, but the competition just moved further ahead.
My two bikes are worth $11k and $4k (CDN). And people wonder why I insist on roof racks instead of trailer hitch racks. Good bike wheels each cost more than dealer prices on M Wheels and tires to fit the 535. At least you only need two at a time. Everybody needs a hobby.
