That sux gresch.

I have had a Sirius subscription for about 4 years now on my primary radio and added a secondary radio about 2 years ago. I haven't even had to call them once. Everything has been handled online and they notify me regarding my account through e-mail. No complaints here (knock on wood).

Every time I call to cancel, they offer me some promotional rate. IDK whats up with XM.

XM Rant Redux...Long Read

TheCEO's new Hyundai Tucson, now 3 months old, and has XM radio, among a few other goodies. Her 3 month XM trial sub expired yesterday.

I hunted briefly, on the net, and saw threads full of a $79 plus royalty fee, annual deal vs. the reminder mailer from XM called for ~ $143 /yr for her current service. It isn't XM Everything, but has most of the stuff. However, she/me listens to about 5 stations, but, I was on the hunt.

The reduced music only deal, on XM's site was still $10 a month/$120 yr.
I wondered if the 80 buck deal was still legit. I called XM, punched my way through their menu, said No to all the bs offers from the machine lady, and finally got to a human. She went into reading the menu mode, and I had to interrupt her to simply ask for a deal on the music only. No deal: $10 a month or, the $144/yr for our current level of stuff.

I suggested the net was full of recent testimonials talking about a $80 deal/yr. She disavowed any knowledge of it, said it couldn't possibly be true, and proceeded to sell hard again, from the menu. As she took a breath, I said no thanks and goodbye. Boom! Wait, she said!

"Let me look further"...5 mins on hold, and I get cut off.

I call back, same drill with the machine, get a different agent, also a whiney sounding female. The Menu Read starts right in; I get her to shut up enough to hear my story. She too says no such deal exists, and "I've been here for like 6 months", . I say no thanks and pause before hanging up. Boom! "Let me do some discussion with 'my manager' ", she sighs. 5 mins on hold...

She came back and said her "manager" had approved a one time deal for a good customer, . Yes, ~$79 /yr, plus a 12 buck royalty fee, blah, blah, blah. I say Yes, we exchange all the info on the phone, I am about to give her a CC # and, Bango...we are disconnected. WTF?!

3rd Try, same process, past the Machine, get another female agent, who must have landed from her homeland, somewhere in Europa, this morning. English might be her 3rd or 4th language.

Same menu reader, though having a very difficult time with the written English script, etc. I jump in and tell her that I had just about consummated a deal, when I got cut off for the 2nd time. She said she had to have "to dialogue" with her "coach". Jesshh H Murphy.

She's back in about 6 minutes, by my Rolex, and says "yes, we will allow a one time special consideration, or something like that. She sounded like Natasha on the ol' Bullwinkle cartoon show. We exchange all the info again, which you can imagine was difficult with her limited understanding, and not face to face, so hand signals were no help.

NEway, theCEO's radio is emitting XM drivel again, I saved a few bucks, and the boss is happy.

WITF does XM, or any company screw around with inflated list prices for services, that no one, is paying? And, why make it seem like the rep just got special dispensation from the cosmos for a deal that is ubiquitous?
And, why drop a call, twice, on a potential customer?

Customer "service" sucks, here in the ol' USA, imo. As Tom Peters ranted 25+ years ago, a company gets away with crummy service if they are simply "no worse" than the next company...

Thanks for reading, and letting me rant!

I had been paying $77/year to XM for last 3 years and called them in April and told them that I want to cancel. Person takes my info and passes me to cancellation department. The guy in cancellation department asks me what would it take to keep me as customer. I tell him that you increased rates and I can't afford and can only afford what I have been paying for last 3 years.
He offers me the same $77/year and no other fees. I take the deal and 10 min later and I am back on XM.

My Sirius is about to expire by virtue of I changed my CC when I got my wallet stolen... it will be interesting. Since returning from Europe, I have gotten 3 months for free by telling them I just bought my car and giving a new e-mail address, and paying $26 for 6 months... I get the feeling that Sirius CS is better but we shall see what happens when the signal cuts off in a few weeks (and probably has me in a really bad mood for the duration of listening to Jesus radio and flipping through my iPhone)

be careful, unless you call and cancel they expect you to pay, old CC # or not, and if you don't (after they've automatically extended you, which is in the contract you agreed to) they send your account to collections, and it's usually 3 months of service they try to bang you for.
