Enjoyed him and, was wowed by him in the Jack5, and his earlier days.
Amazing genius, and probably right up there with Elvis, The Beatles, et al,
in pop music sea change. Registered wacko the past couple of decades,
but most of us get crazier by the year. RIP...

I think most people become older and wiser, in MJ case I think the isolation of his success made him crazier.

I guess some of the wackiness could be "success", as we have seen it from many other celebrities. In MJ's case, it would be wrong to ignore the abusive father he had. A friend of mine made this comment: "He was desperate to have the childhood he was deprived of, so he hung around kids and wanted to be one all the time."

well said and good analysis.

My 11 year old daughter and I watched the Jackson's miniseries last weekend on VH1. To hear of his death less than a week later is eerie. Although she was born well after his heyday and his legal woes, my daughter is still a huge fan. It amazes me that he can still capture the imagination of a generation who really never knew him.

Good point. Extreme genius of any sort, whether artistic or scientific, is quite often accompanied by 'mental disturbances'. Folks that come to mind are John Nash, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics for his Game Theory, and who was portrayed by Russell Crowe in the film 'A Beautiful Mind'. He had classic schizophrenia. Also, Einstein was quite eccentric. The human brain is just fascinating in that sense. It seems like any sort of radical brilliance (whether scientific or artistic) is counter-balanced by serious deficits in other regions, manifesting as OCD, schizophrenia, bipolar, etc. Or at the very least, these folks blow us away with their genius in one area, while displaying profoundly bizarre judgement and behaviour in other areas. I guess Michael Jackson was no exception. So you're definitely onto something Statdoc....
