How popular he was in recent years may be the subject of
debate to some. However the internet has a way of
helping us to analyze this kind of stuff and make an
educated decision.

Of course we can't believe everything on the internet.
But that's where the spirit of a sound mind comes in.
Michael Jackson's Death takes down News Web Sites [Update]

Record sales found here are one indicator, Michael Jackson's Record Sales - Topix

It could be that this is all a lie but I kinda doubt it.
The Web Collapses Under The Weight Of Michael Jackson’s Death

In terms of well-known celebrities, few are bigger than Michael Jackson. Love him or hate him, pretty much everyone on the planet knows him. And that caused big problems for a lot of huge websites today with the news of his passing.

It was probably to be expected that Twitter would struggle as reportedly hundreds of thousands of tweets came in about Jackson in a very short amount of time. While I only got a couple actual Fail Whales, the site was really sucking wind for much of the hour that people were trying to get information about him. But Twitter was hardly the only site that was struggling.

Various reports had the AOL-owned TMZ, which broke the story, being down at multiple points throughout the ordeal. As a result, Perez Hilton’s hugely popular blog may have failedas people rushed there to try and confirm the news. Then it was the LATimes which had a report saying Jackson was only in a coma rather than dead, so people rushed there, and that site went down. (The LATimes eventually confirmed his passing.)

Meanwhile, CNN wasn’t down, but failed for another reason. CNN first said that Jackson was revived (see screenshot at the bottom) before going to the hospital.

^^ Of course Quick. Death makes stars popular and relevant again. If Prince were to die, then he would be the most googled name for that day or days, his records sales would spike, everyone would be downloading his songs on itunes, and there would be Prince tributes going on, it would be all over the magazines and newpapers, etc.

Rev Al sure sound like he is discriminating

What mainstream media is doing is catching up with black support of Michael," the Reverend said. "Blacks never abandoned Michael. When Michael had the problem with his catalog, he came to Harlem and we marched with Michael. When Michael was indicted with the molestation case, black people stood by him, all the civil rights leaders, and were criticized for being there.

How does he know all blacks never abandoned him?
Is he the speaker for all black people?
I guess he is saying that Blacks are smarter than the White folk?

Hasselhoff? Seriously? Infuckingcredible! BDS reports are everything in the industry pal, every record executive reviews them on a weekly basis and make pertinent decisions based on such reports. Most of today's relevant artist's lose momentum on BDS reports within 6-12 months of their record release...and ultimately, can be dropped due to results. Explain how MJ still registers on global reports without a record in 10 years?! His catalog still banks more than most labels relevant artists.

Search that fact yourself...pay the Nielsen fee, register, and look it up. Although i'm convinced you'll still find a way to use it in support of whatever your bias is.

I know that for his tours, he used the same company for years, Claire Brothers. Not sure if they were on slate for the London gigs but they're definitely one of the best out there.

For studio sessions, i've read of Bruce before but he also used a number of Quincy's engineers. One of them, Jon Nettlesbey, an old buddy of one of my mentors. Believe it or not, Teddy Riley did a lot of work for MJ and is well known as a producer but he's also an incredible engineer.

*Edit: Another engineer just came to mind, Bill Botrell.

He is saying that black folks are smarter than whites? I don't know where you extrapolated that theory from. What lines are you reading between? Anyway, Al is rubbing elbows with Joe Jackson... Nuff said. Most black folks cannot stand Poppa Joe. This, I know.

You are in the music industry, so MJ may have been more relevant to you personally than pop culture in general, but this is simply due to your occupation or hobby. I never said he didn't make gooid music back in the day. Those records will always be played and people will continue to buy them. Not at the rate they are today because of his passing, but they will still be sold. MJ's current music and celebrity were irrelevant. The only reason he was in the media as much as he was in the past 10 years was because he was either being accused of something or pulling some dumb stunt like hanging his kid over a balcony. He hadn't done anything career wise worth a damn in a long time. He was famous because of things he did a long time ago.

The Hasselhoff thing was a joke to point out that I disagreed with you on the fact that just because his old stuff is still being played X amount of times doesn't necessarily mean he is relevant. Hasselhoff had probably one of the most popular TV shows of all time world wide with syndication across the globe and he is still irrelevant as far as actors go at this point. What is he, D-list? So numbers don't mean everything.

We aren't going to agree, so I will remember him as a really strange creepster who made really good music 10-30 years ago who may or may not have molested children and you can remember all the fuzzy warm stuff.
