Go potty before boarding plane, please
a buck. All Nippon Airlines out of Japan is asking all of its passengers to go to the restroom before they board the plane. They have staff posted at the jet way asking passengers. The airline hopes to save on fuel because the passengers weigh less. All Nippon Airways asks passengers to use restroom before boarding - 10/06/09 - San Francisco News - abc7news.com

I don't see anything wrong with that......I always use the restroom before boarding. The public restrooms have more space, for starters. And one doesn't have to wait in line, get bumped by the stewardess and carts.......

Even if I agree with that how does that justify Nippon Airlines out of Japan asking all of its passengers to go to the restroom before they board the plane?

I suspect that "news" snippet lost something in translation...not a Doc and didn't fiddle with the arith,
but the "weight reduction" from ~300+ people taking a squirt or a dump, can hardly be more than a few over packed bags; those bags are gladly accepted by any airline, for a considerable charge. The airline(s) may be scrimping on toilet flush water, along with closer/tighter fuel loads, etc., but I would bet the empty bladders are not gonna save much weight. Otoh, not being Nihongi, but having worked in Japan for about 2 yrs, over 10 yrs time, the local populace is often willing to follow the "rules", imo. Pretty funny stuff...ain't the airlines a fun time these days?! GL,mD
