It doesn't have a physical keyboard, you can buy one for additional cost. And those keyboards aren't as elegant or as well-built as the iPad itself. And if you do put a keyboard on it, then you have just created a netbook, but at more than twice the price.

It isn't widescreen, it is 4:3. Widescreen is 16:9 by my definition. Turning it sideways makes it portrait or landscape, that's all.

Webcam and more memory are updates to second generation. I also have a camera expansion kit so that I can interface a camera through the Apple connection. More cost, though. We had several hundred thousand Visa points, so my iPad was free. I missed the chance to buy other toys, but it didn't result in any out of pocket cost.

Flash is one thing I miss. I don't like going to websites and seeing blank boxes. I just can't view those websites. That sucks. There aren't that many of them, but there are enough to notice.

I do own one. And I like it for what it does. But it loses in feature comparison tests with laptops, just the same way as it wins as long as you consider it a new product category, discounting previous tablets.

All IMO.

Price is definitely an issue with iPad.
The bottom line is Apple or Android or Windows, tablets are the future. That's what Windows 8 is targeting as well. I am seeing them in use more and more. I used to fill paper forms, now most places just hand you a tablet to fill form.
Will the tablets eventually replace laptops or PC? Only time will tell.

But why is it that these devices are so popular only after first Apple brings them out followed by attack of clones. We have seen with iPod, iPhone and iPad.

An email chain is an email with a subsequent response. Apple expects you to email from the photo app.

Sure would be nice to have an "attach item" menu option. More steps isn't simple, it is inelegant and cumbersome, IMO.

Since I have you experts here...

When browsing this forum with Safari on a 32 gB iPad 2, it closes by itself quite often. I can reopen it, but it usually closes when I am doing a short response like this one. Then I lose whatever I typed and have to start over. Why does it happen?

Edit now that I am on a PC with a keyboard: As an example, it closed twice while typing the above paragraph. I lost the text each time. I generally don't type more than two sentences on the iPad before submitting, then I use edit post, and add two sentences at a time, resubmitting several times. It is a workaround, and a clumsy one, but it saves retyping quite as much.

I Googled "iPad Safari closing unexpectedly" and got over one million hits. I did a search of the Apple forums. They seem to know all about Safari closing unexpectedly on the iPad 2, there are lots of threads on it. The consensus appears to be that it is a memory management issue, related to Webkit (don't know what that is), and that no solution will be forthcoming until Apple releases one. If that is it, at least I'm not the only one. I'll just sit back and enjoy it's ease of use, seamless integration with other Apple products, quality manufacturing, excellent customer service, free product training and a host of other advantages made possible by a closed system, lol. Should I expect an update to the operating system, or am I supposed to line up for an iPad 3?

So, in the meantime, it isn't usable for filling in text boxes, but it is a decent reader.

More steps isn't simple but here's the way i do it on the iPhone.

If you already have the e mail written, or are responding to a thread, go to photos or camera roll, find the picture you want, touch and hold until the copy button pops up. Copy it. Then return to the e mail, and paste it where you want it.

The way I did it was to highlight all the text I had written in my new email and copy it, go to photos, select send photo, and then paste in my message. Then return to email and discard the now-useless draft.

Just seems non-user-friendly. I can image the Apple designers originally planning out that all their customers would take pictures and send them out to all their contacts, from the camera roll, but that nobody with an iPhone would ever respond to someone else's message. In a way, they are saying that iPhone users start things, but don't need to follow. There's a message there.
