Two words: IN-SANE!!!

500S&W is frightening. Comparing it to a .357 Magnum really puts its size into context.

I finally shot a S&W 500 today. It was a S&W 500 Performance Center and it was AWESOME! I was expecting something wrist snapping but it was actually quite a fun and pleasant gun to shoot. There is a ton of steel to counter the tremendous blast but it still had some pop to it. (See the size of the round above.)

We had a great President's Day shoot today with some buddies. One guy is a certified gun hoarder and he busted out his S&W 500. This is an example of what it can do with just a plain old lead target round, not a hunting round. I was at about 8 or 9 yards so close but none the less, this is one shot to a (now deceased) bowling pin. You can't really see it in the photo but the pin was eviscerated.

Well, just felt like bumping this thread as I just picked up a little piece of history. I now have a Winchester model 94, made in 1976 according to serial number. So the piece is older than me, but has only had 10 rounds put through it!

A friend of mine was given it by the original owner, who had never shot it... just soaked it down with a really cheap lube and stored it. The lube coagulated/solidified and had the whole thing jammed. My friend brought it to a gun shop that disassembled it and soaked it for months, then cleaned and reassembled it. When they handed it back to him they said it was essentially a brand new rifle! He went to the range and put 10 rounds through it, which to date is the only time it was made. So now he sold it to me for what he had in it after the gun shop..... so I got it for a steal of a price! Will put a few rounds through it this weekend and will take pics if I remember...

Congrats! A new addition is always a good thing. I've picked up a few things here and there with a Sig P220R recently to join my other P220. If anyone reading this has not shot Sig Sauer pistols, particularly the P226 and P220 models you really ought to. They are so good. Next to my 1911s, I love my P220s the most.

Post some pics when you get a chance.

I really want another SIG, am still kicking myself in the ass for selling the one I had... I am working on little projects for a couple of mine... One for kicks with a pistol and one for personalization with the newer acquisition. Will post pics when I get have enough time to finish the projects.

In fact, I just traded a Sig 226 in exchange for this little treasure.

S&W Model 27-2. Custom slab-sided barrel. Fine-tuned action (2 pound single-action trigger, that barely moves).

This might deserve some cooler grips, though.

That is very cool, statdoc! That slab sided barrel is amazing looking. I got to shoot another S&W 500 but a 4" with full house Hornady loads. DAMN!!! The poor milk jug I shot didn't stand a chance.

A new addition to my little family of go-bang toys.

For the black rifle crowd, this is basically a 18" LaRue Tactical Stealth Sniper System in 5.56mm/.223 Rem with a Leupold Mark 4 optic. It's my "SPR" (Special Purpose Rifle) build. It shoots amazingly well, especially with 62 grain bullets. Love this rifle!

Got it out to the range on Sunday and shot it, then shot it with my camera. Nothing like a little gun pr0n.
