Tucker Carlson: Vick 'should have been 'executed'
![]() Tucker Carlson: Vick 'should have been 'executed' | Comcast.net PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Eagles are more worried about Michael Vick's injured leg than another attack on his dogfighting past. Fox analyst Tucker Carlson gave the harshest critique of Vick's past yet, saying the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback ``should have been executed'' for his gruesome dogfighting crimes. Carlson was guest hosting for Sean Hannity's show on Fox News Channel on Tuesday night when he made the remarks. He led a panel discussion about President Barack Obama commending the owner of the Eagles for giving Vick a second chance after his release from prison. Vick served 18 months in federal prison for running a dogfighting ring. Carlson said: ``Michael Vick killed dogs, and he did (it) in a heartless and cruel way.'' He added, ``I think personally he should have been executed for that.''

My fave part is his prelude qualifier, "now, I'm a Christian..."
![]() Vick did his time, (and much more time than many DUI drivers that cause death), and I don't have a dog in this fight... The TalkingHead Self-Anointed Geniuses that blather on TV are seldom worth watching, or certainly not 'following'. Very little difference compared to the politicians except the TV screamers aren't elected. GL, mD

The guy gave his opinion. I think we are still allowed to do that in this country. Do I agree with him, No. I think what Vick did is disgusting, but it's actually very common in some areas of this country. I am a Dog lover. I have always had a dog, and in my house, he is treated as part of my family. If you harm him, I'll harm you. That being said this moron served his time, and now is back in society. Let's leave it at that.

Tucker was being too nice. Vick should have been thrown into the pit with a few of his dogs but allowed to live.
Maybe he would have ended up like this: http://karenandkenya.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/gypsy1001.jpg And while we're at it I must say I'm so glad the President called and congratulated the Eagle's owner for giving Micheal a second chance. We know how busy the President is and how concerned he is for all the ex cons out there who have a really tough time. This really shows he cares. We all know that Micheal Vick is a poster boy for second chances. I'm sure he'll be calling the many individuals and organizations who tried to give the dogs a second chance too. As soon as he gets back from vacation. And for those of you who think Tucker was being a bit over the top by expressing his opinion let's not forget who actually did things that were a bit over the top. http://dingo.care2.com/pictures/c2c/share/41/414/451/414518_370.jpg http://georgiadoggym.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/triumph0605.jpg http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/image/bill4.jpg That's right. The beacon of humanity pictured below. http://www.celebla.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/michael-vick-is-a-jerkr_01.jpg Question: how many DUI drivers get drunk and intentionally kill people? Much less kill them slowly, deliberately and with relish and delight, laughing it up with friends while they do so? Take a good hard look at those pictures and try remember what that worthless POS Vick did- because those pictures don't tell the half of it. Recall that we don't have any pictures of him drowning and electrocuting helpless animals. And then think about how much sense it makes to criticize Carlson for expressing his opinion.

Lassie, come home...
Not to get into an arm wrestle: my point was that Vick did 2 years, while a couple other football guys did a few weeks for death by DUI. I wasn't suggesting Vick's actions, direct or indirect, were 'ok' or 'not wrong'. I was comparing what fellow colleagues had received for killing human beings, while drunk. 'Justice' and punishment just seemed somewhat unequal. And no, I don't hold football players or athletes or celebrities or politicians, as role models, and certainly not heroes. They all get to opine like any of us, but the media and, some of the population, seems to pay more attention when 'they' do opine. How many human beings are killed in the US by DUI drivers you ask? Well, it has 'improved' over the past decade: for 2008, the latest year of hard stats I can find, the number of people killed by DUI drivers was just under 14,000 or, just under 40% of the driving fatalities...about every 37 minutes someone is killed by a DUI driver. I could care less that Obama called the Eagles owner, and mentioned Vick. Carlson's remarks were in context of that show segment berating Obama and his policies. Fair enough. Don't care. His segue, especially with the "I'm a Christian..." prelude, leading into his judgemental and extreme remark is what made me go, Huh? Yes, we all get to give our opins: yours and his, and mine. My orig remark is wondering why anyone would pay attention to those kind of talking heads, other than for some kind of 'entertainment'. It certainly is not enlightening or informative, in my opinion. Dogs are great, pets are great, and so are human beings... |

I agree that the the sentences one might receive for a DUI killing are a joke hence I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to say. And I don't think Christianity has anything to do with it therefore I share the same huh.
My larger point is that Carlson's opinion isn't over the top and he has every right to express it. It's an opinion shared by more than a few. If you remember what Vick actually did you might have a better understanding of where Carlson's coming from. If you were there to witness it or held one of those dogs in your arms you might actually agree with him. All that said I don't think Vick should have been put to death. But he should have done a lot more than two years and he never should have been allowed to play in the NFL again. Just as anyone who commits a DUI death should (IMO) also do serious jail time and never be allowed to drive again. Last edited by Brisbane; 12-30-2010 at 06:51 PM. |

My 'huh?' on the Christian lead in, made me wonder if lil'Tuck actually had any Christian values, as in avoiding judgment, wishing a person dead, etc.
I still agree that Carlson can say any damn thing he chooses to, and any of us can ignore what he, and his fellow talking heads say, most of the time... Don't really care if more than a few agree with him; do that more than a few agree that Vick should have been executed, or? Yes, I remember what Vick 'did'. I didn't get to hold one of the dogs. I have petted a nice steer or two, a few pigs, several chickens, etc. before they got off'd, but I guess that's different, as we eat them here, though I have had dog in Korea a few times. RE: "But he should have done a lot more than two years and he never should have been allowed to play in the NFL again. Just as anyone who commits a DUI death should (IMO) also do serious jail time and never be allowed to drive again." How much time in prison should he have done, in your opinion? And, how much time in prison should a convicted DUI driver do, that killed a fellow human being? My orig point was that Vick did a couple years of non-country club jail time...often, DUI drivers that maim or kill, get very little incarceration. That was my point. I hope you get a feel for this discussion, and again, I am not looking for an arm wrestle. Emotions get in the way, when it comes to dogs, death by DUI, etc.

You're fighting an uphill "OPINION" battle MD. Nobody is gonna change
their point of view no matter how logical an argument one may have. I wonder though if "Tucker Carlson" has ever lead the public fight to have child molesters get more time in prison. After all some of them have received less time than Vick have they not? Did we hear any outrage from him about "Bernie" Madoff? Oh now here's a man that cost loss of life!!!! Cruelty to animals very bad but where was he before Mr. Vicks went to trial? Was he there defending animal rights? I bet if he used that language before Vicks conviction we would have heard about it. IMO this is perhaps nothing more than media grabbing misplaced judgemental opinion at this point?

I'm just curious. Did either of you, in some 28,000 (!) posts, ever bother to rag on Vick as much as you've ragged on Tucker?
