I am really wondering what happened to this windshield to have so many scratches?

Not this year, JV. Maybe in next summer. I'm trying to see if I can make it to the X5 meet (probably driving up with my 650i).

Maybe someone accidently hit the windshield stalk when turning on the engine and the windshield was dirty? Or maybe when turning the wheel?

Wait a minute. What ever happened to windshield repair?! The guys here do it all the time with small cracks and what not. Takes 10 minutes , and you still keep your factory seal, which is the most important thing. Not even BMW could duplicate a factory winshield seal in the "shop".

Take the discount and then pay a quarter of what it costs to replace the thing. As for the tear, well you know what to do there...

They'll give me discount on top of replacing the windshield with an OEM one.

Exactly. It is in the prep work, and the details.

Get a windshield replaced by a mobile service van, usually in a parking lot, in the damp, lots of chances of a leak. Get it done by someone who cares about the quality of the seal, in a heated garage, with an OEM windshield, then I don't see what the difference is from OEM. It was installed exactly the same way in the factory. It isn't a difficult job, just one that needs some attention.

Oh. SO what youre saying is, in order to get the discount, you HAVE to get the windshield replaced?

No, I don't have to have it replaced. But I would if I take the car. The scratches are all over the place, but the deep one is the one that causes the most concern.

They already replaced the windshield yesterday, despite the dampy weather (has been raining since Wednesday). That's not a good sign. They called and asked me to drop by to inspect and test drive it, but I am a bit weary now about the whole thing.

60 grand + Weary = No deal. I guess the question is, what are your options, order a new one, go to another dealer, etc? But if you dont have a nice warm fuzzy about the whole thing, drop it...Just my £0.02.

It's more like 80 grand + weary = even more weary
My options are: order a replacement or go to another dealer. There are 4 dealers around my area and I called all of them yesterday. None has anything in stock. They all have some coming in but they are all pre-sold, plus, those don't have my specific options either. One has a Monaco Blue with Creme Beige interior (a sexy color combo), but is missing the Head-Up Display (a must), and it would be here in 10 days, but I passed on that one. I would like to buy it from the same dealer, as I had bought 4 BMW's from them before, and they have been treating me very well. Service is top-notch too.

Found out from the dealer yesterday that all of their December allocations are pre-sold, though there was one spot that they tried to change the color and options but it was already too late in the game, the ordering system didn't take it. The mgr will call me back next week when their first quarter 2006 allocations are in, and place my order for the 2nd week of January build, which will push the delivery back to about 2nd or 3rd week of Febuary. I think it's a good thing to order a replacement, because I do want the lighter wood color (goes much better with my creme beige leather) and Active Steering. So, it probably was a good thing.
