My 2 cents--Are you going to drive the car on a highway? If so, you might not have the car a week before you get a scratch in the windshield. I would take the $2K and run, forget about replacing the windshield.

I had my X5 for about 6 months and I had a gravel truck drop a few stones that scratched my windshield. The only time I notice it is when the vehicle is perfectly clean, but my eyes are drawn to it.

I had my new 330i that I never drove in rain--it was perfect, and someone lost something out of the back of their truck bed--I couldn't avoid it in heavy traffic. Scratched the bottom of the front spoiler. Again, I was the only one who saw it but it bugged me every time I looked at the car.

If your luck is like mine you might as well accept the inevitable and enjoy the car.... The car won't gain value by sitting there, no matter how well you take care of it.

I feel for you though--I'm a perfectionist and it would bug me too......

If there is nothing else besides the tear and the windshield, I'd take the $2k and the new windshield (contingent on a perfect installation). Then I'd go mod shopping

I called the Sales Manager back and told him of my conditions (just like you guys had suggested) and he agreed to all, and would put everything in writing. On top of that, got him to discount another $500 (well, I had wanted $1,000 but he said let's split the difference). That's a total of $3,500 off a brand-new 650i (almost, minus the factory windshield). I don't think anyone could do better than that, don't you think? I know some dealers on the West coast are selling these babies at MSRP or even a little over.

I like BreytonX5's suggestion, too, that to take a rain check for a windshield replacement and use it when needed in the future. But besides that one deep scratch (about 2 1/2 inches across the bottom on driver's side), there are a few minor (not deep) scratches across the whole windshield (you won't see them until you look hard enough under the flourescent lights or when the sun shines on them). It looked as if someone accidentally turned on the wipers when the windshield was dirty (probably at the port).

They're going to replace the windshield tomorrow, and let the car sit in for 1 and 1/2 days. Then I'd pick it up late Friday or Saturday. I told him let me sleep on it tonight and get back with him tomorrow morning. Who knows, I might take the discount or I might wait

But thanks for all the wonderful suggestions, my friends.

If they are not putting 2K in your pocket, I don't think it's a deal. 2K off of financing won't drop your payment enough to compensate your mental state. If this was a low end car, it might be worth it. But we are talking 80-85K...no go!!!.........Phil

Peter - I think the advice you have received here is spot on. Take the additional discount and enjoy the new car!!

Yes, it's OEM. It's a special windshield too because of the Head-Up Display (the area above the HUD is darken to reflect the readings off to the windshield).

Good going! There's always room for negotiations with the stealers. I probably would have told them that I already split the difference for him and that you initially wanted $2000. But good job! Getting the salesman to part with even $10 is like trying to pull me away from the comp when those Freaky Friday pictures are posted.

Let me clarify, it's $2,500 discount in addition to the $1,000 already discounted at time of purchase. So the total is $3,500. But the total discount is reflected on the selling price, not $2,500 cash go to my pocket. In other words, I won't walk out with a big $2,500 check in my hand, so it might not make a big difference
