My dad is so damn attached to this car - it's a V10 tdi. He bought it because they wouldn't lease it at the time. He figured it would be his last car as it would run forever . Anyway, for the most part it has been problem free. Until the turbos went at 80K miles. Then the drive shaft went and he was stranded on the side of the road. I'm glad he had my nephews with him. One turbo went again recently. My brother and I are trying to convince him to just trade it in and get another car. He is 75 years old and travels up to PA a lot. I'd feel better knowing he was in a new car. He can't get past the fact that it was a $70K vehicle new and now it's worth maybe $20K.

He's making us crazy as far as what VW should do for him to protect him going forward. We are trying to convince him that after the warranty is up, it doesn't make sense to keep it due to the cost of potential repairs. I'll ask him to find out exactly what the policy covers. Hopefully that will change his mind.

Have a good guys. Thanks again.
My (retired pilot) mom traded her Touareg in with 97K on it for her X5 (that now has 110K on it, and she loves to death). Our Air suspension and A/C had gone out 2-3 times a piece, and we felt like we had gotten away with murder when the BMW dealer took it away from us. The extended warranty company came to audit us every time something broke, since we would have had $40k in repairs without it. It was a great piece of machinery but it's time was up.

What year is his Touareg? He could find a newer V10 TDI, they went through '08 IIRC.

Thanks Dan, I will pass this on. He had the last one that came to the states. Its '06 or '07. They only offer 6 cyl now.
