FedEx Delivery of MacBook Pro - Missed!

OMG, I'm so stinking mad right now. FedEx is the least predictable of delivery services imo.

Last week on June 25th, I ordered a 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina decked out by performance with the max you could order so it had to be built.

On Friday June 28th, I received a notification from FedEx that my item shipped from Shanghai, China and that I would receive the delivery Wednesday by late day. I subscribed to their text notifications so I could find out the status at each check point where the shipment was going afterwards.

I checked the tracking number feverishly Saturday to find out if the shipment had reached customs. By the end of the day, I saw that my delivery was in Romulus which meant that it landed in Detroit. I checked the FedEx site and the delivery date was moved up to Tuesday no later than 6PM or something

This morning at 8:24AM, I received a text from FedEx indicating that the shipment was out for delivery but my text notification was turned off because I like my sleep. The doorbell rang around 9:25AM and it was apparently the FedEx delivery person with my package. I didn't bother getting out of bed to answer the door because I thought it might be solicitors. We get those all the time.

About 15 minutes later, I got out of bed and found the delivery attempt notice on my door. Now I'm flaming mad.

I'm mad that FedEx's delivery info stated Wednesday, then Tuesday and that I didn't get warning about Monday until about an hour prior to the delivery attempt. I'm on vacation so I slept in. I had no idea the delivery attempt was going to be made today or I would have been pacing by the door.

I'm mad at myself for sleeping in!

I'm mad at my husband for ignoring the doorbell. I'm pretty sure he thought it was solicitors too but he claims he didn't hear the doorbell. It was too late anyway so I think he made up a story about not hearing the doorbell.

ARGH! Now I have to wait until 6PM this evening and drive 30 minutes away to go pick up my package, or I have to be tied to my front door for tomorrow's delivery because I AM NOT MISSING THIS ONE!

Thanks for the opportunity to rant. I don't feel any better but it was worth a shot.

I'll never use FedEx again because I NEVER have problems knowing when UPS is going to arrive at my door. Out of 100% of my deliveries, whatever UPS's web site says will be the delivery date, is exactly the delivery date. Every time. This is my first FedEx delivery in a long time and their site said Tuesday until this morning. I was preparing to put a pre-printed signature release sheet on my door so they could just leave the package if I wasn't home but moving the date up is probably supposed to be a delightful surprise but to me, I'd rather wait a day and have confidence that I know when the package will arrive, than randomly have dates pulled ahead like this with very little lead time. Had I noticed the text notification, I would have had an hour. Couldn't they have updated their system last night?! I was up until 1:30AM today. (Hence, the sleeping in.)

Well, I am involved in a fair amount of shipping.

Domestic and intl; express/priority and ground.

I think the local distribution aspect drives a large part of any one persons perception/experience- HOWEVER, my experience with FedEx has been superior to UPS. UPS is great for ground- cheap, regular, predictible, Hight value/ critical/ priority it is FedEx. I use DHL only on rare occasion, typically for international. However if there is significant customs involvement back to Fedex....

When things go poorly, I find fed ex to be much better at trace and customer support: I can always a gain access to the local stations/managers and get a human to fix things. (I am persuasive) Station managers can page or call a driver on a truck to figure stuff out....when are you coming, when will you be back to the station, etc

I mean sorry you turned off the phone and that you slept in, but fedex has zero blame here IMO.

PS Ive been known to contact the station for a critical shipment, find out what route the driver is on and when he will be in a certain business park, drive up there and pick it up from him. (ie "so where's he going to be at lunch?") OTOH some stations have a hi value courier that just runs out apple/computers/insured items that are first AM, so finding them can be more of a challenge...

PPS Use the USPS when you really dont want the item.

Using the shipping service while at APO or a DPO is a challenge!!! first of all, you can't use FedEx, USP or DHL - it is only USPS... some services are not supported - say, chinese sellers like to ship things "registered", which is their version of a certified mail... the APO will deny the registered mail as per USPS regulations, the registered mail requires a constant supervision by the USPS empployee or whatnot... by the way, registered mail is the only official method of sending secret government classified documents, short of a courier...

can you imagine, being posted in China, order something from the US, find out it is made just around the corner, next to the bakery shop, and then watch the item go to the US, and then from the US come back to China (or, get bounced off, and returned to sender!!!)

just another rant...

lol...

Trying to sympathize with you over here but From the sound of your rant you may have made some poor decisions. We all do. But you can't blame fedex for that.

Here's what you chose to do. "This morning at 8:24AM, I received a text from FedEx indicating that the shipment was out for delivery but my text notification was turned off because I like my sleep. I think it's easy to conclude what happened.

When I'm expecting an important package I make ever effort to be on hand and alert for the delivery, that would include have my smart device turned on and answering the door when the doorbell rings.

Anyway I hope you get your Mac.

Personally, I cringe every time my packages get shipped through FedEx. 90% of the time they're late....next time, get out of bed.

We live up a ~4 mile, 12+ min chug from the 'main road'. up our steep, windy mtn road to our Mtn Joint...
I have the local UPS driver 'trained'/tipped well enough that he will leave anything for us, signing our 'name' if necessary, eg for wine deliveries, tech stuff, etc.

Otoh, the local FedEx guy will not leave any Sig Req'd delivery, if V or I are not here to sign for it. Here in HillbillyHeaven, the FedEx guy is a 'franchise' type guy with a route, as opposed to the UPS drivers that are employed by UPS, fwiw.

I'm with the rest: get outta bed and answer the door, esp if you had a must sign delivery that day.

I have definitely chased the Fedex guy across town to get my MacBook back (especially after 30 days of it being broken, and ordering a replacement).

The one upside to living in a building - they'll sign for your packages. Too bad the people at a gated community's gate won't do the same.

Yep, I was mad at myself for wanting my sleep.

I was mad at FedEx for trying to do something good and deliver to me quicker than what they told me they were gonna do.

I was just mad.

Now I'm over it and I'm using my new MBP and it's so blazing fast, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want one.

Yes, I'm officially an Apple Fangirl now and I can look back at my rant from this morning and laugh at myself.

I can't believe how seriously some of the responders were in their posts. I guess I should expect a variety given that this is a public forum. I meant the rant to be something funny because I was laughing at myself I was so mad.

FedEx in my area, isn't as reliable as UPS. Period. And there's nothing anybody here can tell me that will change my mind so why try? I'm glad for those who have excellent experience with FedEx elsewhere. It's like anything else - service can vary depending on area. Geez. Look at the variety of dealer experiences we have on the forum. My service facility happens to be great and I've had a LOT of bad experiences in my lifetime but that doesn't mean everyone here should have a great experience too. Gimme a break.

By the way, USPS is amazing in my area but that's due to where I live. I haven't had any problems at all with USPS - ever and much of what I ship, well correction, almost everything I ship is via USPS because service has been so amazing. It's after all, one of the few American companies left and if I'm going to support Germany and China with my BMW Purchase, I figure I can offset my buying habits in other ways by supporting American companies when I can. If an American company could make an equally amazing machine like the BMW Brand makes, well maybe I'd consider it. But they'd better darn well have equal or better dealer service or I just won't waste my time.

<end rant>

I have to say the local UPS guy is great. He knows everyone and will try to leave a package with a neighbor.

You will love your Mac Book 15 the quickest way to transition from your old Mac is using a ubs or fire wire external drive/backup.
