IPX did have to be added, it was that with NETBeui right? Before Microsoft recognized the potentiol of the internet.

Is Piggyback Timer the name of the book? I can't find it on amazon.com

I've tried to run various flavors of *nix before, most success coming from Fedora, but I have too many Win programs to make the switch 100% and I can never get Wine to run I'm just too stupid

NetBeui is the successor to NetBios. MS has used this since the beginning of their version of a network OS.

MS is always behind the curve, why do you think they copy others?

Piggyback Timer is not a book. I believe it's discussed in RFC 1693. The reading will probably be quite dry though. The important thing is how communication works, or hoe MS believes it should work. You could use Google to find information about piggyback timer as well.

I mainly run UNIX. Forget Win programs, there are plenty to use that are native on UNIX.

Native yes, but there is a learning curve involved

Nope, get a Mac, it just works. You get the power of UNIX (BSD) but the ease of use of an excellent GUI.

I can't justify the cost of a Mac, and knowing me I'd have to have at least a dual cpu system.

However, VMWare looks more and more attractive everyday just to learn how to use Fedora again.

This TCO debate has been going on for a long time but the debate does not change the facts. Macs include many features that cost extra on PCs. It's a widely-held, but false, belief that PCs cost much less than Macs. While some PCs offer a lower "base price" than Macs, a feature-by-feature comparison, including cost of maintenance, indicates that Macintosh computers are often cheaper to buy and maintain. Macs include many key features that either cost extra, aren't needed or simply aren't available on most PCs, such as virus software, bluetooth , Firewire3 expansion and sound cards. All Macs have sound cards; some PCs still don't. All Macs have had Firewire standard since 2000; some PCs still don't.

A survey of press advertisements was begun in August 2000 and it showed that in fact the entry-level (and sometimes even high end) Macs were sometimes cheaper than roughly equivalent PCs (and this is before maintenance costs are considered)!

The Reliability and Security section of this site cites many many studies from non-Apple sources indicating that Macs are more reliable and more secure. We have all heard it before. You get what you pay for.

Quicksilver, you do raise a very good point, but I build my systems, therefore on the higher end computers my cost is a few hundred dollars less than say a similair Dell.
