Difference between you and me is, you call them idiots. I don't.
That's quoting a little out of context, cw.

My question isn't towards you, but glad you're doing all you can to protect your loved one.

The guy at the tweeter video called them "dumb fucks". To each his own. Just to be clear, I'm not that overzealous to think antivaxxers are all idiots.

I think there's a lot more we can do to curtail the spread of covid. A lot more.

Obviously we're limited to what we can do. Mandates seems extremely unpopular in this country.

While you believe in the vaccine enough to take them, it bothers me a little that you do not have enough confidence in it to convince others to do the same.

If you believe in a product because you've used it and benefited from its use, won't you at least try and pass on what you've learned?

I mean I respect the rights of others to not take the vaccine, but I also believe we have a duty to our fellow citizens to make sure they do the right thing.

During my time in this country I've met and received many random kindness from strangers i've met for the first time. I know that deep down, there's a lot of good people in this country, who's got good hearts, and always willing to do the right thing by others.

I think there's that good in people in this very forum.

I may disagree with EOD, Happy, CW, and quite a few others here on how to handle Covid, but that does not mean I don't believe they have goodness in them and that they aren't willing to share that goodness with others.

I'm of the philosophy that people are generally good by neature. And you can always find that goodness if you look hard enough.

There's an old saying: we each wipe away the snows from our own driveway.

The underlying meaning being that what's on your driveway is your own reasponsibility. Look at it another way and you realize a lot of us is only willing to take care of our own, but unwilling to extend a helping hand toward others.

I think there's more to it than that, if our species as a whole can move on and improve. Or even to survive.

Fair enough. My apologies. I was inferring that you agreed with homeless guy or Twitter poster.

For good reason. Governments rarely return powers granted to them. Hell, we can't even get till roads removed once their intended purpose had been funded.

My beliefs or decisions are mine. I don't enjoy Jehovah's witnesses soliciting their beliefs at my door. I'll provide info that supports my decision if asked or in a forum discussing the subject. But I'm not going to try too hard to change anyone's mind. I find the older I get the more I feel that way.

I certainly don't concern myself with the overall well-being of the human species. As nature demands (or a god for the theists out there), we will be phased out at some point.

Finally a forum member who gets it!

P.S. You have always understood.
I don't know of anything that can change the minds of Trump supporters other than Trump himself. Well maybe not-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBLBcZc5JHA based on what happened in the Alabama rally reaction I don't think he will mention go get vaccinated again. Trump has over 70 million supporters. And Trump has not said anything near to---I want every republican to get vaccinated ASAP. It is vital to our country. It is a health crises and we all need to do our part to eradicate this terrible virus. If republicans are not supportive of Trump who do they support?

Maybe I'm a bit grandiose in my feelings toward homo sapiens. I like to think there's more to it in life than my mundane daily routines of foraging for food and fending off the vultures.

Possible side effect of reading too much sci fi novels?

Quite a few people who's visited the heavens and watched earth from up above all said similar things: earth looked so small, the universe so vast and their own problem seemed so insignificant in comparison.

There's got to be a lot more to strive for in life than just the daily bread and whatnots.

I keep thinking about the strangers that i've met who's shown me kindness for no reason, other than that they can.

Many of them older, some of them younger.

I forget those who are nasty. Seems pointless to include them.

On a positive note, and somewhat relevant to the thread topic:

https://www.city-journal.org/florida...-cases-plummet

Case count in Florida is coming down fast.

You see the same thing on many other countries as well. In Taiwan they set up toll booth for the freeway built 50+ years ago when the country was poor and had to borrow money to build it's very first freeway.

Then when the economy took off in the 80s, they refuse to take off the toll booth.

The fees are collected to this very day. Even though the cost of the freeway are paid off long time ago.

Still, I think the benefit of vaccine mandate far outweighs the negative impact it may have.

We can revise the mandate to a limited period mandate with option to continue depending on scientific data on the rate of infection.

It doesn't have to be a forever intrusion on our personal freedom. More like a limited time of inconvenience to endure while the pandemic persists.

I agree with you, that this covid season needs to pass. It is just personally hard for me to believe either side because of all the conflicting reports, underreporting, and political gas lighting.

I am a Christian, who uses science to “try” and understand my God’s purpose. I would have zero issue with the science, if all of the science, scientists, professionals, etc. on this covid event aligned. But they don’t.

Also, there is other science in general that does not align with the Bible as well (not pertaining to covid). That is where I draw the line. That is my personal belief.

I cannot answer that question. I am not affiliated with any political party, in the U.S., or on earth for that matter.

You are a more optimistic person than I Maruzo. And that's nice. Leads to less worry in life I'm sure. My father is like that. He's an ardent believer in democracy and our system. I believe in democracy as well. I just don't believe that's necessarily what have now. I think we are more an oligarchy now. And the powers that be are sowing the 50/50 split of the country because it's easy to maintain the status quo when you do that. Career politician should not be a thing. The Sacklers should not walk away with billions after poisoning a generation. You could go on and on.

But I digress. I don't believe that any amount of vaccination is going to eradicate CV19. China has the strictest policies in the world and they just had a flare up. If I thought there was at least a decent chance (I don't know >=25%) to eliminate covid I might be more inclined to support mandates.

The most important thing for me is that the vaccine does its job in me, my family, and my friends. We'll keep wearing masks indoors/crowds and avoid large indoor gatherings. Eventually, like other virus' there will be a mutation requiring a new vaccine, or a booster of the current. Well, we're already at that point I suppose.

I fully understand the importance of religious beliefs. I agree it is extremely difficult to decide what the facts are when you read all the different points of view. I haven't found a voice that is as qualified to be an expert other than the CDC, which has the benefit of worldwide information to evaluate and compare to the US. What I hear otherwise are almost all messages from those seeking personal gain and/or nationwide notoriety and conspiracy theorists.
