OMHO saying or trying to recognize that
legally it doesn't carry the same weight as the word
marriage doesn't change a thing regarding it's
importance and impact on those who understand
the meaning of the word used.

Agree completely that husband means man, and vice versa. Boi's partner could be his husband, I am not trying to change his gender. Where is it written that a husband can't be in a civil union with another husband? I am suggesting that they may not be able to be in a marriage, but that a union of two husbands would be fine. Yes, give them the same rights as a married couple. Just call it a union. "This is my husband"....fine. I will figure it out when they are introduced, simply by the appearance of the couple.

I just contend that the words husband and wife do not need to be as protected as the word marriage.

Well I think the resulting issue would be there is one thing LAW says under government and another in popular culture. You can't alter one to alter the other.

Husband = male
Wife = female


Always has been and I don't see a significant enough reason to alter that in 2008+

There are many definitions of the word marriage. Here is one of them;

Any close or intimate association or union:

Isn't a civil union by definition a marriage? It is an intimate association regardless if both people involved are male or female, IMO, so why not just call it a marriage?
