Biden walked away?

As compared to Sarah Palin who doesn't take questions from the press?

Hard to walk away when you don't even show up...

Yes. Biden walked away..he should walk away from his socialist ticket I mean, when your VP even says you aren't fit to run the country..that should mean something. Especially when he does a 180 and becomes a fan

that would have been worse than walking away. Can you imagine change-boy trying to actually answer that question with a fact instead of "hey if we just hope like Kennedy did in the space program..it will work out" you know, like those vast socialist countries right now

I disagree. I think that turning it around and talking about the idea, while refusing to stoop to calling things Marxism (and communism) is smart.

It remains to be seen whether the Democrats will be rewarded by voters for taking the high road and not getting into the fear and smear adds as much. One can hope so, if only because it raises the tone of the discussion.

Neh, I'd rather not be socialist. But I fear I'm in the minority with the American Idol gen

In all honesty the average US citizen is WAY too dumb to debate those concepts. The only thing they see is "oh, you mean I don't have to work and get crap for free?" they would never ask the cost (which is SUBSTANTIAL) to providing that socialist environment. Which is why Obama's message is so well received. IMO.

Ideas should be judged by their merrit as ideas, not as what label you file them under. The Republicans are hoping that the mere mention of the words "socialist" and "communist" will be enough by themselves to scare the average person into disliking an idea. The average American has been so programmed over the years to hate "socialism" and "communism" that most of them do indeed hate these things even though they have no idea what they are.

Another similar example is the word "fascism". Because a certain fascist government about 70 years ago committed genocide, most people think that fascism has something to do with genocide or evil. However, judging from the viewpoints on this forum, I would say that most of the people here have fascist leanings in their views of economics.

And don't be fooled.....it is all about economics with these terms, not about "democracy" or "freedom". Socialist ideas tend to favor the poor and lower middle class, while fascist ideas favor the wealthy and upper middle class.
