I had a discussion a while back with someone(older than me) I know with $hitload of money. He voted for Obama. He was arguing with me that Obama is right for the country as taxes are good, otherwise how else you expect to run country full of debt and where else do you expect to get the money to fill the empty coffers. I am sure he is very happy today.

He has a point, considering they no longer have the Social Security trust fund that they used during the Clinton era to create the budget surplus.

As a long running and vocal Obama supporter on this board, today I am unapoligetically proud of what occurred last night. Not only do I feel that President-elect Obama will take this country in the positive direction, I would be remised if I did not say that last nights announcement caused me to pause and think of my grandparents and relatives who are not here to witness this historic event.

That said, anybody who is quick to pull down, degrade, and complain about the next administration without giving it a chance should think again. I can sympathize that Obama may be a hard pill to swallow for many on this board, but the continued negativity will do nothing to move this country forward. If the republicans want to recapture power it will be done by showing class, and define a positive direction for the country. The name calling and fear tactics do nothing to advance the cause.

IMHO, the republicans need a Ron Paul type of a candidate. Let's not forget the level of excitment his supporters had for him. He was a princibled, honest, and smart candidate. He may not be the candidate in 4 years but I hope the party goes in that direction.

Mit Romney, may be a good candidate too.

But I agree with most of what you said.

First thing I'll probably do personally (instead of you know employing the multiple families that my company funds) is stop my donations. Since you're so concerned about me personally and I'll GUARANTEE I do more for this "country" then you do

Obviously you've never run a business or you'd know how corporate profits are viewed, which pushes owners into higher tax classes unjustly. Some companies simply lay off employees to avoid these costs. I tend to believe I shouldn't punish them and their families.

I totally agree - that is why everyone who has asked me today what are my thoughts I have said, "he is not who I voted for, but I am willing to give him a chance." I have definitely not been a fan of the most current policies, but unlike most people and especially the way the press plays things out, I do realize that it is not all Bush's fault.

With that said, I wonder if you would feel the same way about your statement if the election had gone the other way...

Very well said....in all respects....I am a Republican who UN-ashamedly voted for Obama. My biggest concern with Democrats has been their historically WEAK stance on national security issues. I do not get that vibe from Obama. I think he will be very tough when he needs to be.And he won't be a stubborn bastard like W, but will retain the flexibility and change, as conditions on the ground change. How ironic would it be, after W's 7 year "War on Terror", if it's Barack Obama who actually nails Bin Laden and Zawahiri! Just sayin...it could happen...

As for the African-American aspect of this election, I too am sorry your late relatives are not around for this proud moment in race relations. Barack is a guy for ALL people. He openly acknowledged that racism is still a problem in this country, but consistently refused to play the toxic "race card" that alienated white voters from that clown Al Sharpton and from Jesse "blame whitey for everything" Jackson.

Absolutely. Just like I am not gloating over an Obama victory. What I feel about the outcome is personal to me. There is work to be done here. I've never had a problem with McCain, personally. Obama was just my candidate.
