google it and you will see. I was thinking the same thing, but brian5 had the balls to bring it up first. In WHAT manner is that racist, other than calling in the media for driving with blinders on. We've all bitched about his heritage before, and IIRC, we decided that the MEDIA was making a mountain out of a freaking bump.
His comment is NOT racist, it is simply dicking out the media. Stop looking for something to bitch about!

I personally don't give a flying frig whether he is black, white, orange, purple, gay, straight, hell, as long as he speaks english I don't object! My only issues are with the media making it an enormous deal. woohoo we have a president with african-american heritage, we can have a big deal made next time because the next president will be left handed.

I would have hoped that our society had passed this "color" crap 50 years ago, but this is a prime example at why we're sitting in the clusterfook we're in. People don't learn.

I'm not being racist, I'm not being insensitive, I'm not being a bigot. Flame away, since someone will find something in what I wrote to bitch about. Good Night.

EXACTLY, they are setting everything back YEARS.

The honorable thing to do would be elect the man and NOT EVEN mention his heritage. THAT IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. I personally find it condescending, ingratiating and insulting for the way he is being treated.

This is not What MLK dreamed of. Equality means no differentiations. He has been regailed due to his color.

Show him some respect. Stop calling him black. Mr. President will suffice.

IMO:

The whole "black" thing is only significant from the standpoint of:

1) There has never been anything but a white male as POTUS
2) Blacks during/pre civil war were slaves
3) Blacks were treated like utter dirt by the "general" (not all) masses up until the late 1960's (yes I know nearly 50 years ago, POTUS was born in 1961, well after the majority of travesties and way to young to feel the full brunt of racism of the 60/70s...throw in an Ivy league educations, and I'd say he was far from the average person)

As for being POTUS, last I checked a VAST number of "white folks" voted for him, more than blacks if you go by strict votes and not percentages. So all this equation is simply, rhetoric. The media focuses on the fact that he is black. The media showed primarily blacks during the entire coverage today. Is that a good or bad thing? Who knows. If it encourages folks to work harder from seeing the example set by POTUS, wonderful.

Sorry Quicksilver but this thread turned pretty political so it's now in the Politics Forum.

My $0.02: People have forgotten that he is half Caucasian. Obama has not but the media and public sure have. They love to focus on that one aspect of Obama. Does it matter? Not to me. He could be purple polka dots for all I care so long as he does a good job. The assumption that he is "qualified" is just that: an assumption. I think that he is very charismatic, articulate, and has nailed MLK's cadence as well as JFK's smoothness. That made him a very appealing candidate in the face of a crusty and semi-crazy McCain. Time will tell if he has the substance to match his coolness.

Brian Williams on NBC made an interesting observation about Obama being of mixed race and called him a true African-American since Obama's father was from Kenya. How do other African-Americans feel about that? Racist? :

Side bar: I heard Obama today compared to...

Thomas Jefferson
John Adams
Abraham Lincoln
John F. Kennedy
Martin Luther King Jr.

That is a SERIOUSLY high level of comparison for a person who was a junior senator and started their first day on the job. Like comparing a rookie quarterback to Joe Montana, Joe Namath, Dan Marino or Tom Brady. The individuals he was compared to had LIFE LONG dedication to their country and cause. While I do think Obama "could" be great, lets at least make him earn the prolific role call.

You're right on. The guy might, and I hope will, turn out to be one of the greats but from the get go this guy has had an almost unreal amount of almost god-like adoration. He's a rock star more than a politician. People have so blindly thrown their panties at him like never before. Like you pointed out, the media has had to make so many "he's like" statements because he doesn't have a track record or own identity to focus on. It's all been very superficial and in 30 second sound bytes. That seems to be enough for most of America.

The cold and unforgiving examination that the passage of and tests of his mettle will allow will define him and I hope that at the end of it all he has lived up to even half of the hype.

I don't think I'm anti-Obama so much as I'm not in love with him like most people seem to be, like lovesick puppy dogs.

Thanks;

I am genuinely sorry I posted my feelings about what I saw.
I don't know why I thought this thread would turn out
different than it did. It's the same old garbage. Nothing
but negative responses.

It is my sincerest wish that the admins not only lock this thread
but deleted it as well.

The site is over-moderated as it is. There is no need to delete it. Unless it turns to personal attacks, it will remain open.
