Not racist at all, IMO. I was discussing this with a friend over lunch today, and I happen to agree with Brian Williams' comment. I am black or African-American (or whatever the term du jour is), and I could never be mistaken for anything but. However, President Obama, even with his mixed heritage, is more "African" American than I. Although I come from an African lineage, there is very little I know other than my ancestors came from Kenya and Sierra Leone. President Obama has a direct lineage to Africa, and has a grandmother and other relatives that are still there.

I'm with ylwjacket. I get your point, and I also think you made it well.

I also try to appreciate the significance of the moment. It was very moving today watching the celebrations, and that is what helps me to comprehend your feeling of history happening.

From a Canadian who respects our partners to the south, congratulations to all of you (whether you voted for him or not). I think it is a day that Americans should be proud of, and let's wish him well and hope he can deal successfully with what one editorial today called "the in-basket from hell"

You certainly have witnessed a lot of history Quicksilver. As a 70's baby, I've only read and studied some of the events that you've experienced but i'm honored to share this moment with you... ...thank you for sharing. This very moment in time is affecting all of us in one way or another. I can understand your emotions...complete strangers have approached me on the subway, even recently with friends at a bar to start conversations, expressing emotions and feelings. It's been a pleasant exchange regardless of emotion.

This history is being written by all of us alive to experience it...each one of our emotions vary as it touches each differently. Some may feel no different than they did yesterday, a year ago or all of their lives for that matter...to each his own.

I raise a toast to you and wish you a healthy and prosperous new year.

After my post of

This is amazing - those airmen being there is incredible. So many African American stories serving as the basis for what has made us great. This is such a great day.

Hmmm, I guess I am one of the minority who is not a racist. I couldn't care less what race he is.

I'll rephrase my question: Are you implying that I am racist? I don't think you meant to imply that, but your post hit right after mine and I wasn't sure.

its like the damn pumpkin at midnight.

How about this for a perspective.
How does the rest of Obama's cultural background feel about him being a true "african-american"? Once again, search our forums, and you will see that there is more to the story. I don't see Asian people beating the fookin' horse.

I wasn't talking to you specifically at all. My post implied that everyone who a) voted for Obama because he was black, or b) is getting all excited over his blackness as POTUS, is strictly speaking, racist. I couldn't care less about the man's race. I thought that is what MLK lived and died for: "content of his character, not the color of his skin". How is doing exactly the opposite of MLK's vision anything but promoting racism?

MLK died for equality for all mankind. It is because of MLK's dream, and for what he sacrificed his life, that people are as excited as they are over President Obama's ascension to the highest position in the land.

Krimson,

The fact that it happened is glorious.

The manner in which his person always has the qualifier of 'Black' attached, tarnishes it. Shameful.

MLK's quest has not been fulfilled. The journey has been shortened.

On a side note, there is a HUGE difference between a Racial comment and a Racist comment. Choose your words correctly please gentlemen.

I did find it a little disappointing that 80% of those interviewed during the inauguration were black, considering that without white voters Obama's win was not possible, it would have been nice to see a 50/50 mix..
