I'm a dual citizen of Ireland. Do you think people go running around there speaking Gaelic at work and in life? Hell No. English is the language and you are expected to know it in order to survive.

Sorry, that is a crock of shit. My ancestors learned English, I learned the language before I lived overseas, and I'm working on another one. I will NEVER speak Spanish to someone within the borders of this country.

There were some people speaking spanish at the cashier at the shoe store I was at today. Great reaction. Head snap and "huh?"

It wouldn't kill if we had more people here speak at least another language...

Goes both ways...u should see the arrogance of some americans going abroad and they get so pissed that people there don't speak English...hahah too funny

I believe knowing English should be pretty much required to live here.... speak your native languages all you want, but know English to be able to perform in society here.

After all, what language are all the road signs in? The country is run in English... the least you can do if you want to live here is learn it to be able to interface and communicate with the vast majority. Really, how can one legitimately get a drivers license without knowing English?

Just because one doesn't fluently speak the english language does not mean they don't understand it
