I wonder what Einstein would say about global warming?
Very interesting to consider. He was a brilliant man scientifically, but not the most common sense. I think he realized how nieve he was when he split the atom and didn't intend for military purposes.

Some other quotes of his shows his belief that somehow the human condition can be altered:

"The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of
thinking...the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If
only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker."
- Albert Einstein

"The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of
thinking, and we thus drift toward unparalleled catastrophes."
- Albert Einstein

"One cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war"
- Albert Einstein

"Force always attracts men of low morality."
- Albert Einstein

Warm and fuzzy quotes on how great it would be if we all just got along, sadly, that isn't going to happen.

Has this turned from a pointing fingers thread, to a thought provoking thread? Maybe there is some glimmer of hope.

I bought a BMW almost 2 years ago . . . still waiting for that pure joy thingy though. Did it come with the sport package or was it an option I missed?

Have you ever wondered why you can't get a job without a drug test and a criminal background review but you can get government handouts without either? Also, what's the purpose of "life without parole?" Aren't they called correctional institutions. What is the purpose of correcting someone who will never get out of the correctional institution? Wouldn't a bullet be a much cheaper and more effective correction. Just thinking out loud.

You must have missed the option box it is right below your engine choice on the order sheet. LOL It is only active when merging onto freeways, passing old people on country back roads, and scaring the shit out of your friends in a vehicle this high off the pavement.

Your point about drug testing for government handouts is an excellent point that I had never before considered. Some would say the value of life w/o parole v. death is that in the event one is framed or falsely accused...there is room for a reversal. These instances are rare but the do occur. My thinking out loud goes something like this......free the more than half of all prisoners who are in there for non-violent drug offenses and spend some of that money on treatment programs. Shit in my honest opinion drugs should be legal. We could tax the idiots who want to do them and start paying off this absurd deficit. Its all about education....not prohibition...which leaves us spending money on law enforcement tactics that are completely useless against the superior funding of drug cartels. Additionally, we could let our police men and women focus on doing actual police work, not just chasing dealers around. OK done off topic rambling!

I agree with your opinion on drugs too. They should be sold over the counter down at CVS and treated no different than alcohol. Additional revenue stream for sure!

Regarding people falsely accused, nobody gets tried these days for a life case without some serious plain as day evidence . . . DNA, forensics, etc. No case is even going to make it to court on weak evidence. Chances of someone being convicted falsely have to be in the .00001% area. As a matter of fact, the chances of actually doing the crime and getting off of it completely are much higher . . . remember OJ? Put a bullet in them all and be done with it.

Regarding the option box right below the engine choice on the order sheet, I saw that box too. But I didn't see the one where you would check "dependable vehicle" so I didn't get one. Hard to get that pure joy thing when you have a wrench in one hand and a replacement part in the other . . . instead of the steering wheel in both.

Sorry to hear about your problems with your bimmer in the shop. I suppose I have been fortunate.
I agree on DNA evidence etc I suppose you can still be framed for a crime fairly easily...but then again how would you prove it wrong, with evidence etc. Some just do not believe in taking lives. Religious people, not me.
Jailing people in america has become big business. Private companies are opening new jails at an alarming rate and you can invest in corporations whose stock rises depending on the number of inmates. Sick. See for yourself CXW - Stock Quote for CORRECTIONS CORP OF AMER NEW - CXW Stock price - real time stock quote for CORRECTIONS CORP OF AMER NEW . I believe we currently have like 3 million or so in jail. Roughly 10% of the country is in jail, at least the population who is eligible to go to jail anyways.

Once again this is off topic for the thread. I assume its acceptable in the politico forum where topics naturally wander!

Your math is a bit off There are ~ 300MM Americans, and 3% are in prison, which is ~ 3MM people.
