He submitted the required form to those who needed to know so that he could be sworn in and take office. It was acceptable to them and it should be acceptable to us.

You're saying that something that happened in 1899 (that's 112 years ago for the math impaired) is still being practiced by white Americans today and that's why Obama is being asked to prove he's a US resident? Wow. Absolutely incredible. (btw- the irony of the stereotyping an entire race of people is not lost here).

Insinuating that white Americans don't understand that racism still exists in this country is ridiculous. of course it does. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that in the last 100 years race relations in America has improved. We have a black president for crying out loud, he sure as hell didn't get elected by only black people voting for him.

Should Bush have cried racism every time Whoopie Goldberg criticized him? "Whoopie hates me because I'm a white man". Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? So does Whoopie for calling Trump a racist.

Regarding point #1, you can't dictate what is acceptable to other people just because it's acceptable to you.

I think you are the one trying to set new standards. The original document he produced was completely legal, acceptable by state of Hawaii, The federal government of USA, state department and election committee. The only people that did not accept it are the birthers. Plus, how ever he got in Harvard is probably more legit than how previous president got to Yale
Fact of the matter is people should not have to resort to these kind of non-sense to debate a President....

I think there are probably two separate groups of birthers.

Firstly, there are those who honestly believe Obama was not born in the US. I am not sure there is any hope for them. Similar percentages (20%) believe that the moon landing was faked, that the sun revolves around the earth, that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time, etc.

Secondly, there are those who don't like Obama and/or his policies, which is fair, but who are using the birthers, simply stirring the pot. The issue that the latter group needs to be cognizant of is that people get judged by the company they keep, rightly or wrongly. Trump is a smart guy, but by allying himself with the birthers he looks a fool to some of us, and a hero to others.

I think if Obama had held out until there was actually a presidential race, and then produced the long form certificate, he could have made the birthers look even more foolish. I guess he got tired of waiting.
