disconnecting NAV question

My MKIV unit is dead on my 2003 X5. It turns on/off as I drive. When it turns off, the whole LCD screen goes black and flickers. I don't really use GPS right now, so I was wondering if there is a way...

hmm just keep trying to do it very accurately... i couldnt get it to work for a few days initially. it is very important on when you let go and press again in step 4.

is there a fix for it? it will not unlock with the mid-console button either, i have to pull the door handle from the inside then it pops up. but locking it is no problem.
