317000 miles

Update:
Made it to 317k with no major failures. Oil seal at alternator mount failed and prompted me to trade for a 2010.

Why did you eliminate the overcharge

It's right there. 16.something is too high. It happened don't ignore it or you will get unpleasant surprises. What richkid said but don't leave off voltage regulator.

Good luck.

Others will argue NO. I have changed mine 3 times now at 270000 miles. Use only the correct replacement not a equivalent. Good luck.

It's probably time

You definitely are doing diligence on your problem. Good job. There are plenty of posts here supporting how tough BMW is on a battery, and I have that experience too. Mine is a 06. In 09 I had to...

Also, weak battery and/or alternator and/or regulator will create weird conditions. Get it checked for stored codes maybe? Good luck.

Not a mechanic but;
Is not the belt tension determined by a tensioner pulley?
Wouldn't 110k more likely be the cause?
I paid 1300 bucks for a new alternator at the dealer, including 1 door ding...

240000 going for 3

06 4.4 I do about 50 to 60k miles a year now. I do my own normal routine maintenance. My schedule for service is generally half of what BMW recommends, except for stuff like blades and brake fluid....

Hard to believe you need a rebuild with low miles. I know nothing of Vancouver.

Was there a symptom before the fluid change?
Who changed the fluid?
What fluid used?
Did they drop the pan?...

Evidence

See if you can find out the dealer's diagnosis. Such as debris in the pan, or codes, or what. They are probably right, but my 06 did the same thing at about 170k miles. Dealer found my alternator...

Not the end of your trans
