I didnt see any effect on mpg. Benefit of the delete is less things to go wrong. I did mine when the seals around the swirl-flap 'cartridges' were leaking.

The pins have a barb which holds them in place....

The pins have a barb which holds them in place. You need a thin metal prodder inserted from the front, just above/below the pin, to push it down. Try a paper clip, but it may be too thick....

How do you know the DPF needs replacing/cleaning?

I know that there is a mileage remaining value that comes from the DDE but I suspect the previous owner did a DPF reset in an effort to solve a DPF-related issue.

My X5 has 140k miles on the clock...
