And that same key is also used to release the parking brake if it's engaged and you need to manually release it (leftside of trunk - you have to remove the side panel to access the key hole).

No, not all dealers replace rotors. I have had 2 instances where my e60 needed a brake pad replacement and I tried to insist that they also replace the rotors but they said it is still within spec....

Check if the electric water pump & thermostat were already replaced on those model years. They go out almost at this time (3-5yrs or about 50k miles).
