I got the OEM Lemforders the first time around....

I got the OEM Lemforders the first time around. But since they are now made in China, I opted to get the genuine OE parts this time. Chinese ones lasted 33k miles, we'll see how the genuine parts...

BMW's terminology for these bump stops on an e70 is "shock absorber". Hence my usage of the term.

Otherwise, the main shock absorber on any car is the springs, and dampers are the struts.

I don't understand the hype about Victor Reinz. At some point, many e46 owners had problems with their VR VCG, including me. Not to mention, I have never come across VR as a OE supplier for gaskets....

Yes. My '09 4.8i had thrust arms that are aluminum. I replaced them with steel Lemforders, then those with aluminum again.

Excellent pictures! I would imagine the upper donut could be replaced with the wheel on the ground, but I think the main sources of the clunks are inside the strut: the other two foam bushings.

That doesn't sound like it's foam bushings, in which case you'd hear loud clunks over pot holes. Broken spring, degraded rubber inside strut mount, or degraded spring pad would be my guess.
