Yup, VIN Decode says US Build, not an import.

Gonna call and make an offer tomorrow. I know it's rare but it's worth what it's worth. if it had some insanely low miles i could understand a price hike. but considering the cosmetics, and the few things wrong i don't see it being worth over 8.

gonna sleep on it. thanks for all the feedback.

All first generation BMW X5s were built in Greer, South Carolina, even Xs for Europe and Asia markets. None were built in the Fatherland.

update, there is only the one key as well. anyhow, i called and tried to beat him up on price and you'd think i was trying to buy his first born.

i think we're just too far away from each other to make a deal.

oh well.

Too bad. You seem to be a guy who could get the best out of a manual E53. $8k seems a bit rich, given the mileage, condition, and absence of records. Keep the door open and they may come back to you if they really want to sell it - but then, with a manual E53, they may find a buyer at that rich price.

He's firm on price because he knows how rare they are. Unfortunately I paid about a grand more than I would like, but with manual X's, the old adage of "I'll find another one" doesn't work on sellers because they know there are so few out there.

I will say though, the first time I spoke with the seller on my X, I offered him about a grand lower than I paid, and he was firmly saying absolutely not, didn't even want to counter, I actually thought I offended him. However, 3 days later, he called me back, and asked if I still wanted it (it had been on the market a few months), and asked me to make him a fair offer somewhere in between what I offered and what he was asking. I came up a grand and we closed the deal the next week, and he even brought the car to me.

Honestly if he knows how to drive the stock clutch should have plenty of life in it, I've had VW's on stock clutches for over 200k and didn't slip a bit.

Having 1 key is kinda standard, I just purchased a master remote from the dealer for my '03 and it cost me $130, no big deal.

Sorry you guys couldn't work a deal out, but manual AC, and no sunroof to break, wow, talk about an X that will surely stand the test of time.

Maybe a member on here will buy it.

What dealer did you get the master remote for only $130 RB?

tonycajjo 06-25-2015 10:22 AM

yea, i'm gonna let it sit for a minute and maybe call back tomorrow. if it's gone it's gone. I know they are hard to find but that doesn't mean i need to overpay. If there was a few things less wrong with it i would hesitate to be closer to his price.

Open Road BMW in Edison NJ. They won't ship it I'm fairly certain, because you need to sign for it in person when you pick up and show them license and reg.

Call around a bunch of local dealers, the prices are all over the place, dealer 20 mins from my house wanted $195, a few others were around $180, Open Road gave me good pricing because the director there likes this forum, lol.

They maybe hard to find but there are fewer people looking for them or who could afford them. People who never learned to drive a stick will not be in the market for them.

People that are buying the Xs these day are in a different financial group. The Xs has dropped in price that kids working at McDonald are able to buy them. Most bank will not finance a car that is over 10 years old, especially to kids working at McDonald. So in order to buy an old car you need to do the immigrant payment plan, 100% down, no monthly payment.

Let him sit on the car. The fact that he has only one key is a signal to me that he is kinda cheap. If he's cheap with buying a spare key, he may had cheap out on maintaining the Xs.

Cars are like city buses, miss one, there's always another one right behind it.
