Speaking of badging... you decide on a moniker yet?

I like 546iT so far. Then, I like the M5 too. The car's 1st private owner was trying to copy the one M5 wagon in Munich so... And the racing for badges thing sounds fun... Right now I just want the tune flashed, a tranny fluid change w/filter and suspension parts installed. The LSD bolted on and to remove the snow tires. The details can wait. In order of preference ; M5, 546iT, 5 (just a big 5), M4.6is and nothing. |
I'd run badgeless.
What are the details on your lsd? |

Very nice.
I really want to do a LSD in the X5. It would really help the awd out. I got stuck the other day in the parking lot thanks to the open diffs. |

We live on Queen Anne hill and out in Cle Elum so snow and ice are kind of the norm for our Winter driving lives as you know being in the area. I'm not saying it wouldn't be good on an X5 but seems like a lot of money for what it would do compared to my personal experience with her rig. You sure some Nokian snow/ice tires wouldnt work better? You might as well add locking diffs...? I'm asking. What did you get stuck on, sheet ice? |
I also haven't slept since leaving Frankfurt some 40 hrs ago so take my questions as questions and observations as observations. :)

I have snow tires and it was soft snow. It sunk a couple inches because I was going too slow. Once it was stopped it would only spin one wheel. DSC deactivated completely even didnt help. Overall it's decent in the snow, the awd is just a little lame when you actually need it. For example, my S5 chargesd through the exact same spot a couple weekends earlier in all seasons (albeit brand new DWS').
Locking diff would work too, but I'd rather have the LSD. It would greatly improve the odds of getting stuck given the two open diffs and the open planetary tcase. |
I see. I wonder if the system is the same on the 4.6?
Don't get me wrong, I know that the lsd will really help my wagon so I'm sure it'd help the e53 I just haven't seen or experienced the X have a problem yet. I wouldn't take it "off-road" but I really have tried to bury it in snow and it keeps going. My wagon on the other hand... Slightly less than flat and level on ice and I can be there for a while if trying to start off. |
It's the same in the 4.6. Usually it's fine, but once you lose momentum, you only need to lose traction on one wheel to get stuck.
