Ah damn... Spyder headlights, bad halo.
Really looked forward to getting these installed while we have such warm weather... Is it worth fighting with the ebay seller for a replacement - or is there something simple I can inspect?
http://i.imgur.com/gizl4U0.png?1 *edit - read on, this thread turned into me getting a spare set at no cost, and the guys peer pressuring me into doing a Morimoto EVOX-R retrofit, along with other modifications and suggestions. |
Well - Whoops. Turns out the battery maintainer on my truck had come unplugged, and the battery was ridiculously low. I was testing them straight to the battery posts. I did read someplace that a purplish tint to CCFLs was an indication of poor solder joints - the previously unfired halo now lights up, yet has a purple hue. Perhaps due to the behavior of CCFLs, and when left on for a while, will whiten up. Also - these inverters are the Chineseiest of garbage. Any recommendations for more durable ones?

Its most likely the inverters man - Go on ebay and type in "ccfl inverter" and just get a pair of replacements for $10 - I had mine opened and went to LED rings, but the CCFL's technically should be just fine, just double and triple check your connections and I'd replace the inverters with better ones
How are you liking the lights? Huge visual upgrade isnt it |
I had no issue when I got them for my old 3.0i. Even some eBay seller steal my pictures for their ad :D

Yup definitely the inverters... and in typical fashion, once I got the relay all wired up, ecm acc power tapped, wire loom an all, totally psyched I'm going to finally have halos... I go to hook up the pass side inverter and I hear a POP. Awesome, blew the side out of a transistor because they skipped labeling the polarity on mine. SO - hit up Amazon for a pair that look a little beefier w/overvolt & overload protection.
Waiting sucks. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RECIE2 |

Where do you get those lights from? Do I have to remove the entire light assembly and open it up to replace something.....
