You can do it on the car but you have to be really creative with masking.

Better to remove it and stick it back on after.

Patience is not in my vocabulary so the emblems will be staying on. I found some helpful videos so I'll try again tuesday

"Patience is not in my vocabulary"....if that's the case, modding/DIYing is not for you.

Heck, used BMWs with over 100k miles are not a good vehicles for impatient owners (unless they're comfortable with repair costs exceeding vehicle value every 2 yrs).

These vehicles fall into 3 owner categories......

1) Those who are patient/willing to DIY/research repairs/invest in Bentley & tools/can accept the vehicle will be inoperable for a few day.

2) Those who are willing to open their wallet WIDE to have others do the work.

3) Those who just got their license/in school, mom & dad paying for repairs.

Am I missing a category here guys?

Before this gets out of hand I'm 32, an ex mechanic with 3 years experience & been around cars since I was 17. Just because I don't have the patience to remove an emblem to paint doesn't mean anything other than that, end of story.

It can be done with the emblem still on so now that I've seen videos on the proper way to do it, which I didn't the first time, I'll be better prepared to do it the second time.

Agreed. Give it another shot. I did mine no problem. A couple tips that might help other than the toothpick:

1. Clean the paint around the emblem maybe even waxing it - it'll be less likely to stick there.
2. Don't be afraid of a wider masking area, leaving some space from the emblem. This allows for more of the rubbery stuff to grab when peeling off, making it less likely to break before you get to the emblem edges.

Isn't it never going to be a clean edge anyhow, based on how you need to ~score~ the dipped finish to remove off paint but remain on emblem. Between the time to do that and the degree of ease/difficulty, I would think removing the emblem/attaching seems to be the best recourse regardless ...

I would have thought the same, but for some reason if done correctly and you peel slowly, the plastidip breaks at the emblem edges. There's several videos on you tube showing this.

Yea I'm going to do 4 coats instead of 3 this time & wait longer to peel it off, should make it easier to break the edge. Will post the results tomorrow.
