The android unit works just like a regular double din and probably cheaper than most. I paid $700 or something for the pioneer in my f150 and cant do near what the seicane in the bmw can do.
But you keep your ios and carplay with the dongle I am talking about.
God I know it sounds like Im selling android units but I am just trying to pass on what I have learned. I have bought probably 300 radios in my lifetime and I have owner over 200 cars and trucks.
The regular stereos with carplay are kind of a 15 minutes and your life is set kind of deal. So if you decide to go pioneer or whatever normal double din find SOMEONE with one already like you are going to buy. When I say find one you need to find the EXACT model your going to buy and try it out. Heck take the apple usb cable into a showroom and try it out on the floor demo if you have to.
The 15 minutes and your set means whatever quirks that radio has are quirks you are GOING to live with for the life of that radio. It wont improve over time. NOTHING works flawless with apple carplay or android auto (androids version of carplay) completely. All have something they don't do perfect. The drawback with a pioneer or whatever is there wont be a "fix" for those annoyances. They only do 1 or 2 patches at the most for the life of a radio model. It takes a major goofup for them to even do those. Minor glitches they ignore.
Android devices are all app and driver based which means there will be updates for any give function. Even if the developer of the function you have now quits developing it or providing updates someone else will step up with a different app or driver to replace what they were doing. So bugs and glitches have better odds of being addressed.
So this isn't us trying to get you to ditch your iphone. You can use your iphone with the android. This is just about radio choices. If you do go with a generic double din in place of a factory look model I would be glad to help you with that too if you want. Just trying help.
