Now if it was cooling and you came to a stop and it stopped cooling very good then the aux fan or the mechanical clutch on the main fan might be bad.

But the wont cool till x amount of motor run time is a bad compressor. No if ands or buts. The time needed for the motor to run increases the worse off the compressor is.

2 to 5 minutes is the early stages. 30 minutes or so is mid death. 1 hour plus is on its last legs.

Again if the ac wont work when you first crank up but starts working fine later on and keeps working till the x5 is left sitting for awhile (usually an few hours and definitely over night) its the compressor.

When my fan failed, my compressor would not engage without the fan running. Same thing for the fan, 2 years later when my compressor clutch failed, the fan would not turn on. They both need to see each other operational to work.

I bought mine with a bad aux fan and cold a/c.

Replaced the fan a few months later but used the a/c the entire time.

Heres a dumb question. Any one know of an aftermarket compressor replacement that isn't a variable whatever or one thats more reliable than OEM? Gonna do this before the summer along with my cooling overhaul.

Thanks.

I suffer random instances of the AC not coming on, but my nipples can cut glass when the AC blows. I have found that I can set the system off then on to get it going. Perhaps the car thinks that the AC has done its job and the temp is at or below the Set Temp. Whatever is happening on my car, it seems to be one of bad decisions, not broken compressor or fan.

I bought mine off ebay for $110 or something and it has a lifetime warranty. I doubt they will around if I need the warranty :)

But at a $110 if it last awhile that's peanuts money wise.

I feel like im in your shoes. I've tried all the things possible to rule out the damn control unit under the stereo. but no matter what I do 2 things must happen for the ac to blow cold in my car.

1. Car must be at operating temp
2. I must rev to min 4000 rpm.

aside from all the normal fan checks and nonsense if these things don't happen for me nothing is ever cold.

Everything I found searching the net was a bad compressor if it doesn't cool at first and they cools great.

From what I found and what I experienced it goes like this if its the compressor.

1. Randomly doesn't come on but if left running a bit it cools and cools great.

2. 2 to 5 minutes of no cooling and then cools great.

3. From this point on it just gets longer and longer before it will cool but once it starts its will cool great till its left sitting for a long time usually overnight.

The easiest way to look at it if its the compressor then it will not cool when you first crank the car for the day and after driving a bit or just letting the car run it will start cooling perfectly and keep cooling great till the car is cut off and sits for awhile usually overnight. Then the process starts all over again.

If it never cools or stops cooling then its not the compressor.

It was $119 and it still is $119 it seems.

Works great.
