If the charge faded in less than a season I will use a sealing charge with dye. I filled a friend's truck 2 years ago that wouldn't hold a charge and it is working great in Phoenix

In that case an elbow joint failed and the UV dye clearly marked the leak but also sealed it. I might not use the sealant on a car less than 5-10 years old but when it's 15ish and high enough odds I'll be replacing the compressor anyhow I will use the sealant/dye first. On a younger car I'll use the dye without sealant if the leak is a simple hose fitting I can repair so putting sealant into the system.

Intersting. Didn't know you could seal them that way.
How does this sealant thing not ruin stuff like compressors and whatnot?

I think because it reacts with oxygen and drop in pressure.

I never had a problem for 4 or 5 years after using sealants but if was expecting 10 years out of it I would try to avoid it

I have exactly the same problem, but I'm pretty sure the culprit is the variable displacement control valve at the back plate of the compressor.

When they get old tend to get stuck open, so you get no compression.
ICE-32 has a great product that will lubricate, and help the valve work again, I already ordered mine, I will have the system evacuated, and then will refill, while adding the ICE-32.

I'm very interested to hear about the outcome of this, titodj! Do you have a Calsonic Kansel CSV 717??? Please report if the fix works for the compressor. I bought a new valve(MT2280) for like $11 bucks, but didn't try it out.......switched out my compressor thinking it was a diff issue.....even though my symptoms were I was getting NO compression with equal sides pressure.

And needs to be added with a dye or oil injector.

So after reading your post about Control Valve, I called my mechanic and told him to hold on to my old compressor(he was gonna scrap-heap it) cuz I'm'a go get it and install new control valve I have. Wish there was a way to give it a good test, after installing control valve, other than installing it back in my X:dunno: Curious to hear how yours goes........Best of luck that it IS the valve:thumbup:
