so, I ran into a bit of a snag... received the product and it looks awesome, and it fits great adn connector works perfect on it, but I forgot to take into account the plastic pipe (from MAF) that would clamp onto this... and since this Throttle Body has a larger diameter... well I'm sh!t outta luck.
So I may have to manufacture a way to clamp onto this new TB.

Maybe - as a trial fit to see if everything works before you make a final solution - hit the local hardware store and find a good rubber sleeve designed to clamp two pieces of pvc together. If you could use something like that and maybe some good heat tape to ensure you had a seal you could at least see if she runs.

Just a thought..

The Dinan air box tube is a larger Diameter as is the aluminum sleeve that the MAF sensor is attached. The reason for the larger throttle body is to match up with the other components so increase in air coming in is not restricted by the stock diameter throttle body.

Whenever you increase the air in exhaust out must be addressed or that becomes the restriction point of maximizing the air in mod. In my view mods should be determined based on value. How much gain for how much investment. If there is an exception it is a lower restriction exhaust as stock exhaust restricts performance even before any mods.

Dinan is no longer owned by Steve Dinan and prices have changed as well as the requirement that installs must be done by authorized dealers. Some reasons Dinan products were high priced was due to the research, testing, longterm verification and their warranty.

It is always best practice when doing mods to avoid breaking new ground especially on a daily driver. You never know for sure what the outcome will be in gain or reliability. The result can easily be less reliability and due to the complexity of creating a custom tune the best course to take is buy mods that come with a matched tune as Dinan does. When one does shade tree engineering mods it is very important to pay for dyno time to see if what you have done is good or bad. Pricey even in the DFW area. Dinan has done the Dyno testing.

I have a generalized value equation of doing mods (above) that I use faithfully. If I ever spend money to purchase something where I don't know what the benefit will be I don't expect if will be a good value decision.

Well I figured, since I already had the e53 4.8iS exhaust system, software tune (from local tuner company) and Dinan CAI box (with high flow) Donaldson Air filter, I may as well see if I can buy the Dinan MAF and TB. to finish the job..
But then I read that just buying a TB from the E70 N62B48 4.8 could be used instead, as its a larger diameter than my stock e53 4.4i N62B44 TB so that would act as a psuedo Dinan TB for the N62B44 engine.

So I took the chance and spent the $100 on the great condition e70 TB and it bolts up perfectly to the engine (of course) but then the butterfly bore diam is the concern with factory 4.4i air tube.,
So if I can find a way to properly connect an air tube from e53 4.4i MAF to e70 4.8i TB then I can't see this being a failure (but I 100% agree, I should have dyno'd the vehicle before I do this swap and again after to see if any difference).
And I also agree, Air In = Air Out volume equation. Why allow air in if you cant expell it, OR why have a high flow exhaust if you're choking air even getting to engine...... Its funny we are discussing the same theory again as we did in the other thread I made years ago about which kinds of aftermarket air filters to use with a CAI https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...s-listing.html )

I'm taking for granted that the e53 4.8iS exhaust I put on my 4.4 will make it exhale better than the 4.4i exhaust did. I certainly like the exhaust note more so, even if its doesnt ;)

If this was a costly endevour I'd not have ventured down this path but sometimes its fun to see what you can find out.

this small project will have to take a back seat tho to my e31's fuel pump replacement and throttle body replacement jobs this weekend...

Not sure about your M62, but N62 motors use their throttle body as a form of traction control as well. You can even feel it, as the car gets loose the engine starts to bog down significantly. Increase in throttle body size, off the bat means a less invasive traction control. Although tunes are well and all, I bet you can squeeze more power out of a tune alone, then from a 4mm throttle body increase, in a motor that runs with the unit default wide open. But a tune, dyno time, etc, etc, turns what could be a very effective (and very cheap) mod into something much more expensive. This is why we're looking at 4.8 TB in the first place, rather then the still available dinan units.

I need to see a reliable source on this.

The exhaust systems of stock vehicles with extremely few exceptions have too much back pressure. Low restriction exhaust alone will improve performance. No other mods are necessary. Free flow exhaust is always a good value and will maximize gains from other mods.

If you are using the 4.4 intake tube rather than the larger Dinan intake tube the larger Dinan MAF and TB will be of no benefit.
