Here is to hoping I can look at it tomorrow... Today's project was important too...(ps: that's two Bosch pumps hiding in this pump carrier) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ca5797f520.jpg

All go well with the fuel pump installation? LoL - I'm really just hoping you were able to get that done so you had time to mad science that throttle body and give us an update [emoji16]

all went very well thank god, but it takes hours to do things right to make them look factory.
as for how to proceed with this tb task, I have to remove the plastic intake tube tonight, caliper the Outside diameter of end that connects to current N62B4.4's TB and then caliper the OD of N62B4.8's TB (from e70)... Then I'll look for a silicone reducer/expander/adapter (whatever you want to call it) that can be of very short body and then I'll see if I can connect it.. there IS the small offchance that I may even just need a silicone coupler as I recall the OD lip of that plastic tube is quite large and may be the same diameter as the OD of the... but as stated before, this may not be smart as the restriction now is the factory 4.8iS exhaust and factory sized intake tube from my Dinan air box to my factory 4.4i MAF (non Dinan) and then from that MAF to this e70 throttle body... but thats not going to stop me now in the name of Science from playing this out...

interesting side note, the e53 4.8iS has an N62B4.8A engine and an e70 4.8i has an N624.8B Engine, therefore both have different throttle bodies and totally different air intake systems...SO close, yet so far...

I hear you - I SO hate to hack anything in, I would always rather spend the time to do it right the first time! As I tell my kids, you can do it half ass and do it twice or do it right and just do it once!

Good luck with the tb, I say again, as a cheap, quick, will it work solution maybe your local hardware store has a rubber boot for sleeping pvc pipe - just a thought.

Interesting on the E53 4.8is vs the E70, I almost asked why the E70 tb va the E53 (4.8) tb but I guess you had already done that research.

Wish you luck - keep us posted! [emoji106][emoji106]

because its the same throttle body used on a 4.4i OR 4.8iS for the e53. The bigger throttle body came into play on the next gen x5...

I'll see if a lowes or home depot have the rubber boot for pvc in the size I need. thinking it will be a 3.5"/88.9mm OD or damn clsose.

Well I can use a single sized silicone coupler IF I can get one 8n a size close to 93mm.
I don't think the silicone couplers can stretch because of the 4 layers of fibre inside... Hello interwebs search.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0c3474725f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...03557d08c8.jpg

Kind of strange actually, they were able to generate more power out of the same size tb for the E53 4.8 but stepped up the size for the E70 4.8. That leads me to think that maybe the stock 4.4 intake tube isn't so much of a restriction as we might think it is. - may be more in the maf than the tube? I haven't looked (obviously) but any idea if the maf from the 4.8 (E53 version) will work on the 4.4?

Was it Matt Damon in "Martian" that said "mad science the shit out of it" [emoji106][emoji106]

Call it 3.7", bet you can get a 3.5" rubber coupler from Lowes/HD to stretch. And if you're really concerned grab a 3.5" collar for sleeving ABS to PVC and it should be about 6" long and have 4 clamps on it so decent coverage and (probably) clamping (for testing anyway).
