I personally like using the Rexing V1 3rd Generation 4K for my dash cam. They work great and are cheap. Killer video and audio quality.
https://amzn.to/2XveXft The main reason is they mount flush to the glass and look basically like the camera your posting pics of and since they are self contained besides a power wire there isn't anything to run other than the power wire. Adding one of these to the front and back means each has its own memory card so 128gig or more storage which is good for 2 or 3 months of recording per camera and in the event of a wreck the odds on both becoming damaged beyond recovery are pretty slim. They also have an internal battery to keep recording after losing car power if needed. I have been using these for over a year now and will be my go to from now on. The internal battery will fail eventually and you can swap it out from a 300 mah battery to a 1000mah battery to when the time comes for a nice increase for key off recording. Android radios have enough to do being a stereo and all the apps people put on them without having to double as a dvr. Not to mention the chore of handling the ibus that our bmw's add to the load. Just my opinion of course. |

They showed in stock in California so I went ahead and ordered one and will get it installed ahead of my head unit purchase. https://avinusa.com/dual-dvr-dashboa...-hd-video.html The Front Dual Recording Dash camera is compatible with ANY camera with the standard Yellow RCA video input. Whenever you commute to work, go on a road trip or race on a race track, our HD DVR car camera is your ideal companion. Export recorded videos to use as an evidence in case of ticket or accident or just to share with your friends if you caught something interesting during your drive. You can easily switch between the two camera views or watch both camera at the same time during your drive. Records from both the Front Dash Camera and Backup camera at the same time. The front DVR dash camera records your driving in high definition and saves the video to your sdcard. The backup camera records video in standard definition. You can record 100's of hours of driving as it is only limited by the size of your sdcard. The front DVR dash camera can be mounted to your front windshield and can be tilted for the perfect recording angle. This is perfect for recording an accident scene as it will record the date and time as well as the exact location of where it happened. The camera is connected by USB and camera view displayed on the on your Android monitor's touchscreen." |
Looking forward to your install Overboost. I have the front Avin unit working no problem, was curious about the rear signal and source.

I'm still on the fence Mouse but your install has stimulated my interest again. I ran the numbers on the AVIN site and it comes up at $700 so I backed out again. (Uncle Sam cleared me out this month )
Someday I guess... |
Another video run through on the AVIN Avant-4 from The BMW DIY Guy. I wish someone would spend more time on the advanced coding options and DVR but fairly complete on the basics...

Got my DDVR-CAM2 today from AVIN. So now I finally see how it wires up. The front camera has the USB for its operation and the rear camera wires intercept the original RCA jack coming from the rear camera. So it looks like the rear camera RCA jack coming from the rear camera plugs into the DDVR-CAM2 first and then the second lead plugs into the rear camera input on the back of the Avant-4.
So many times I asked AVIN via email how this wired in and to offer a picture or schematic, nothing... Was it really that hard to provide a simple picture like this? |

Thanks Prop for finding that. Might order one to pair with my head unit. Been wanting dual DVR. Might have to rewire my rear cam to have 12v+ all the time when vehicle is on. |
