I think it's still the M57 in the USA. I don't think the E70 ever got the N57. That said it does indeed appear to be an interference engine, which means full rebuild or a replacement engine.

Yeah, is see that now...odd. Seems like the US market 35D still got the M57 when the ROTW moved to the N57... which is not a bad thing, since the M57 is (was) a damn fine engine.

Broken cam chain is not a common issue in an M57 but yeah, it’s going to mean the head has to come off.... :(

Pistons too -- I assume you'd want to replace pistons if they all got hit by valves. I don't have a ton of experience in that regard but I'd assume for a high-compression diesel engine you wouldn't want a bunch of valve-shaped stress risers in the tops of your pistons. And if you're taking those out you might need to hone the cylinders. I don't know where to stop when you get to that point just because I haven't rebuilt a lot of motors.

Unfamiliar with diesel but on m62 replaced plenty of valves without doing the pistons. 8/32 on one motor.
The pistons already have a dent the shape of the valve couldn't even tell they impacted. Of course when head is off you'd make that judgement call.

The gas pistons do but the diesel pistons have a big stratified-charge dent in the very middle of the piston, IIRC. Not shaped with a cutout for the valve IIRC, or not very much. Makes sense too because the diesels are like 17:1 compression or something, so there's much less space in the combustion chamber at top dead center.

Seems like a good price and they look decent! It's CL. The posted price is not what it may really sell for.

Wow that's a crazy one. Is the interior trim original in that car? Or has it been repainted blue or black?

If it was a 3 pedal version, I would be making communications!
