2000 4.4 - worth it?

Hey guys - new to the forum. I have been reading the past week to research X5's as I am considering buying one this week.

Here are the details:
91000 miles
Sprt pkg
Xenons
htd steering wheel and seats
Nav
moon roof
Orig 19 inch rims with new yokahama tires
22 inch rims with pirelli tires
built in radar detector
6 disc CD
premium sound
privacy glass

** edit***
per recent BMW Inspection II
It also needs:
front lower control arms
Power steering pressure hose
Oxygen sensor
headlight washer pump

Asking price = 19,500

Any thoughts?
thanks for the help guys - sorry about this type of post.

No.

Too expensive
First model year run (most notorious for issues)
Expensive repairs in the future for a 91K mile car

Kbb.com prices for that car:

Excellent
$15,955

Good
$14,895

Fair
$13,480

sounds pretty high to me...look at autotrader for similar year and mileage...then subtract however much it's going to cost to do the work needed on it...

Too expensive. As Wagner said expect several things to go wrong in the next few thousand miles.

Thanks for the feedback guys - I do appreciate it.

Wagner - I see the values you provided. It seems to me that it's very difficult to find these for blue book value or lower. Do you have a suggestion for an acceptable asking price? or this is something to pass on due to the year etc...?

i only got my '00 cuz it had 63Kmi ... things continue to break:

window clips
window regulator
trans leak
cv boot
pneumatic air bag
nav screen

i got deal on mine tho from my pops - $16K

Keep looking, X5's aren't moving in the wholesale market at all. Period. Which means...buy a 2001+ from a dealer because you can negotiate the price down.

I would completely pass on the X you're looking at, way over-priced (the seller is out of their mind if they think they can get near 20K for it). IMO, if you really want a X5, I'd save up about 25,000 or so and buy a dealer 2001+. Remember, in 2004 the X had a face lift along with other tweaks that made it much better and a new, more powerful, 4.4 V8.

:iagree: totally with Wagner...

we350z 11-14-2007 03:30 PM

Not sure I agree. What makes the '04 X5 E53 4.4i engine more powerful? Valvetronic?

We are talking M60 vs. M62 (M62B44) engines correct?

Some people also prefer the pre-facelift look as well. So for 9-10K more I'm not sure its worth it, personally.

aren't the post face lift x5's slightly heavier offsetting some of the horsepower gains?
