I tried calling my stealer but they couldn't help me with the software version for the tranny, I guess the only one who knows the software are the technicians in the dealership working on the computers:

Anywho I'll just write down exactly what is written on my invoice if it helps.

A. (oil change part)

B. CUST STATES THAT TRANSMISSION WHEN COMING TO
A STOP VEHICLE TENDS TO JERK OR LUNDGE
FORWARD LIKE HE JUST GOT REAR ENDED CK
AND ADVISE

CAUSE: E
2499 REPROGRAMMED EGS TRANSMISSION
CONTROL UNIT. . . . .
66 WX94 0.00

maybe the 66 wx94 corresponds to something. Hope this helps. :)

they need to make something like this for the 4.8

My car was in the shop during entire last week, till today. Just got the car back. Which had quite a few job, that needed done.

Well, dealers actually just upgraded the software, while the car was in the shop! haha! And I didnt even have to tell them about it. Apparently they thought that transmission shuddering at time, and just went on and upgraded the software :)

My guess is, simply ring them up and say you heard about it, and want to do a reprogram on the transmission. Might be just as simple as that :)

Upgraded the software and changed nothing. :(

As mfrymier, the software reprogram update i guess is specific for the 4.4i. For the 4.8's and 3.0's that experience the same problems we have, you may or may not have an update for your tranny. I suggest the best thing to do, is bring it to the stealer, be specific about your complaints that may have to do with the tranny and have them list each one in the invoice/printout to help out the technicians working the computers and who knows, there might be some update to it. :)

I just had my transmission software updated this week on my '05 X5 and, wow, what a difference  Definitely more responsive in terms of shifting points and holding time in gear. Also, I haven't experienced that head-jerking "slam" coming out of a rolling stop that I've had to endure on occasion since the upgrade either. So far, so good http://www.xoutpost.com/newreply.php?...ote=1&p=55032#

When Cold

My 2005 4.4 jerks when cold, thinks transupdate will fix it?

Bmwtvboy 11-16-2005 03:18 PM

Hey,
Good luck with the fix it software. I have an earlier model
X5 3.0,01. Love drives like a monster.
So where do you hail from in Spain? I am planning a trip
in the spring and can't wait to drive the backroads of Spain.
Any favorite places to drive? Unfortunately I can only find
Mercedes convertibles for exotic rental. No beammers.

I hope you appreciate my post count sacrifice here

There is a SIB dated May 2005 concerning the aggressive downshift clunk that causes the sensation of being "rear ended".

The last episode in my X5 was so forceful, I thought the lady in the minivan must have hit me so I memorized her front plate number just in case. Needless to say, she never touched my butt. :spank:

If anybody still experiences the aggressive downshift clunk, you should explain what is wrong to your service advisor and request the GKE software update per SM 24-202-05.

They should then check the software number for the DME. If it does not match the SM, the DME will need to be programmed with the latest software version.

Since I am a professional lurker, I cannot answer any questions about this update because my post total would increase and I could lose my lurker status. Good luck and goodnight.

I hope I see the same benefit. My dealer just phoned me to confirm they have reprogrammed the shift control module with v23 which is the newest software for my '05 X5 (March 05 build). I'll be able to tell immediately if it has fixed the tranny slam issue (I've had passengers yell thinking I was just rear-ended...VERY annoying). Keeping my fingers crossed...
