I reckon my setup of T30, a couple of software versions on different HDDs, yellow EDIC, Orange OPS, power supply, and aluminium cases to keep it had cost me about AUD$4500-5000. It hasn't paid for itself yet but it has got me out of a lot of trouble and I have done a bit of programing and testing on it now. I don't think I will ever get my money back but the convenience is priceless. And I love playing with this stuff.

Can this equipment (EDIC) chiptune bemmers with flashprom in the ECU?

I'm not sure what you mean, it can not play with modified ECUs, it is only designed to fault check/rectify and program/code modules and key settings basically.

Sorry if I am hi-jacking this thread, but if weasel is out there? a response I had from one tuning company as to whether or not ecu remaps were detectable is as follows:

"Hello

The dealers tools are not as sophisticated as our tools all they are able to do is diagnose problems with cars not changes in ECU software... If your service person was correct we would not be in business and BMW would not be investing in the EDC17 Tricore locked ECUs to try and stop tuners, which Alientech have now unlocked with the EDC17 adapter..."

So weasel or anyone ?can the tweaks be detected?

The old setup with the GT1 can not detect it, but the newer setup with the ISTA server can as it tells you the exact software integration level of the DME... and if the tuners find a way to develop their software to not be seen by that and mimic the BMW software... the BMWNA mothership can still 100% find out if they want to. On occasions where they suspect aftermarket software is a culprit they call for the DME to be removed and shipped to them and they can read out all the set running values/parameters... don't think they can ever hide from that because thay is what software changes, the operating parameters of the fuel/spark/timing etc. and they can ALWAYS read out the parameters for everything in the DME and they know exactly what the parameters are supposed to be with each and every software level.

And on modern BMWs under warranty I'd never put aftermarket tunes on them anyways because half of the check engine light errors and drivability complaint errors are fixed by updating software anyways, not to mention any software related recalls or service actions, or the fact that the whole car gets reprogrammed with any codes part/control module replacement... So you could bring your car in for anything from a check engine light, runs rough on first start, or even just an oil change and it could get reprogrammed back to OEM BMW software.

Basically, on modern BMW's, if I wanted aftermarket tuner software I'd wait till the warranty ran out then make sure you tell them it has aftermarket DME software any time it gets brought in for anything so they won't unknowingly program you back to stock.

I've been lurking around this thread for months now. It's very interesting what you guys are doing but I wasn't too keen on dropping $700 to play with it. Well, last month I found an "el cheapo" version of GT1 from ecutools for $220 (plus $24 shipping to Manila). I thought this was cheap enough to get into the game so I ordered one. I finally got the package in the mail this week.

I think the reason it's cheap is that it doesn't come with the Yellow Diagnostic Head.

Here's what the package consists of:

1) D-CAN interface box
- this is about the same size as a pack of cigarettes with a USB plug on one end to connect to a PC via USB and a serial port on the other end to connect to a car OBD port
- not sure if this replaces the diagnostic head but it just very well may be a USB to serial port interface

2) BMW OBD16 cable

3) BMW 20PIN to OBD16PIN adapter cable

4) Net cable head
this is a regular ethernet connector with about an inch of cable with the wires inside connected together to perform a loopback to make the PC think that it's conected to a network.

5) USB cable (to connect D-CAN to PC)

6) Software DVD
- Current version: dis52 base+dis55+tis2007.12+dis44(coding+progman). TIS and coding/programm functions are all activated also including INPA 5.02 with EDIABAS 6.47
- .net installer
- vmware installer
- USB 2.0 FTDI driver
- Diagnostic Head installer
I think this replaces the diagnostic head

I'm going to set it up and try to connect to my car and let you know how it goes.

yup please let us know, you are pretty brave to be trying it

was it VMWare virtual machine files that was send as DIS? files are .vm** files?
If it was you install the VMWare and then select "import virtual machine" and select your files on disk, it will then create the virtual machine already setup for you.
