thanks for the reply , I think the yellow multiplexer will work with the x5 up till 2005 , and will need the orange multiplexer for the newer model .

I spoke to yohotech and they sell the gt1 with the dvd cd so i dont need to buy the HDD, but can you tell me if the process to install the DVD is it difficult . any special thing I have to do .

Yes, its my understanding that the yellow multiplexer SHOULD work with DIS v55. However, two important points to consider:

1) It has not been CONFIRMED to actually work with DIS v55. Meaning, none of us has actually installed v55 AND got it to see the yellow multiplexer. Not saying it doesn't just that we can't say a definite yes yet.

2) More importantly, even if it does work with v55, you will only be able to DIAGNOSE with v55. If you actually want to encode/program, you need to use SSS not DIS.

SSS, I believe, uses a different diagnostic head (OPS/OPPS) to program which NONE of us have right now. None of us have installed SSS yet.

For now, I'm concentrating on using DIS v43 because I KNOW that will diagnose and program the X. I will leave the VMware stuff to others for now.

Hopefully, that makes it a bit clearer.

EDIT: To answer your question about installing VMware and DIS v55, it SEEMS easy enough to install. However, as I explained above, none of us have confirmed it actually works with the yellow multiplexer - so, in turn, can't definitely say "yes, its easy to install and you don't need to do anything special".

thanks for the reply , I taught the opps connector is for the newer cars.

I have Dis v55 up and running and it won't recognize the yellow multiplexer.
Been playing with it for about 4 days and still nothing.
Maybe its time to contact yohotech.
Can't get SSS to install because of password/file errors.
Solution is supposed to be in the works.

CJ, you may be better off spending the extra money and getting the software pre-installed on a HD.

yes I taught it would be problems with the dvd only , I ask yohotech for the price of both the HDD and DVD.

I had problems with carsoft 6.3 and now get it to work in vista softaware .

I dont want to have that type of problem ,the pre install software is ok but the HDD can only work in an IBM t30 .

Thats just it. I don't know enough to tell you positively on this.

I think these are some safe assumptions, I could be wrong of course, but this is the best I can do for now:

1) I assume the X can still be programmed by SSS but using the OPS/OPPS diagnostic head. The reason is DIS v45 and above can ONLY diagnose. I doubt BMW will go back to using v44 and below JUST to encode/program Xs. However, I can't CONFIRM this right now (I don't have OPS head) but it makes sense to me.

2) Understand that the original GT1s MAIN software is really DIS. Of course, BMW upgrades the software hence the different DIS versions. DIS v44 and below could still diagnose & program using the yellow multiplexer (which sometimes people confuse as the actual GT1). When BMW went to higher versions, v45 and above, those could only diagnose - no encoding/programming capablity at all.

So, because of this BMW rolled out another system called SSS in order to do encoding/programming. This uses the OPS/OPPS diagnostic head.

So, THATS why you will see DIS v45 and above always offered WITH SSS from those latop GT1s - w/o SSS, you can't encode/program.

THAT is what is not pointed out to you on those ebay listings, etc. They assume you know what you're getting and how to use it.

My suggestion for you, if you're only gonna use it for the X like me, then stick with using DIS v44 and below with the yellow multiplexer - which means getting a T30, yes.

EDIT: Also, from my limited use of v55 through VMware on my 4GHz dual processor, 4GB RAM desktop, it ran WAAAY slower than v43 on the T30. I also read in another forum someone who used BOTH and he said the VMware was LESS stable than the T30. Take all that with a grain of salt.

EDIT 2: There might be a chance SSS can actually use the yellow multiplexer (not the OPS/OPPS) to encode/program the X. I need to do more investigation.

thanks for the reply .

I dont think we need the OPS , the OPS is for serious programming ,
the OPS use the OBD2 CONNECTOR for power only , then use special connector to flash module with software .

an example for using the ops is rewriting crash data in the SRS, you cannot do this by the obd 2 port .

Been reading with interest.. I do have 97 540i and 2003 X5. Immediate need to diagnose issue with remote keys on X5. Looks like yellow head will do.

1. Does anybody know what is the difference between v43 and v55? I mean, how old is v43? Is it like bug fixes and minor improvements?

2. If I get 2004 530i or 2006 330, will I be able to at least diagnose them with yellow head?

1) Not sure but it CAN'T be older than 2004 or else we couldn't encode/program the X. Not sure how we could get the info. for the differences between revisions.

2) Not sure but lemme look into the Diagnosis section or somewhere. I can't remember if it asks you the year and model somewhere. Let me see what I can find out and get back to you.
