I get 21-22 MPG if I do strictly highway on a single tank. This drops down to 15 MPG while doing strictly in-town driving. I still try to get 20 MPG mixed but that is still mainly with highway.

I get 18.1 MPG on my 2005 4.8is and 18.2 MPG on my 2010 X5 diesel. I regret buying the diesel because it sounds like a bus and fuel economy is nothing special.

14 when I just do 2-3mi drives from the house to Home Depot. 16.6 mixed driving. Close to 20 on the interstate by myself-but most of the trips I'm loaded with a roof box-so back to 16-17 for those drives.

Approximately 16 to 17 MPG on my '03 X5 4.6is... and that's beating all Range Rover Sport Standard or Supercharged at stop lights...

for highway driving only (cruise set at 110 km/h), I get 11.1L/100kms
with 18" Beyern wheels

With 50% city, 50% highway driving I get 18 MPG with 20" wheels (tires width 315 on the back and 275 front).
For those who have an android based phones you can download for free from android Market program FuelLog which gives you the average MPG with every fill up. I'm using it for about 3 months and in my case the MPG from this program is very close to the my car computer MPG.

Just did a Tire Rack Street Survival course. I managed to get 12.7 MPG with lots of idling and redline shifts, though. I bumped that back up to an abysmal 15.1 MPG on the drive home. I did find it amazing that pushing the car hard only gave me ~4 MPG less than "normal" all city driving which is around 16 MPG.

I have a 06 4.8is with 37K miles. I calculate my MPG every time I fill up. I constantly get about 350 miles on 23Gal of premium gas. That’s around 15.2 mpg. I don’t push the car hard, no hard acceleration but I do warm up the engine. I do mostly highway driving with low traffic grid time.

I don’t understand how some of the guys are claiming 19mpg on 4.8is. I just don’t see that….
