My last long distance trip gave me 439 miles to the tank @average speed of 90 mph. I believe I averaged 23 mpg...

If that is with a completely empty and completely refilled E53 fuel tank, you might want to check your math.

---------------
But for the purpose of this thread:

I returned yesterday from a long weekend with my family and could not fill up before some local meetings. This affords us- at the expense of my nerves as I pulled in on fumes- the opportunity to do some math with photographic proof. Here we have an absolutely EMPTY X5 tank, the gallons to fill it, and the odometer reading for our calculations from today:

Syooo the math:
438miles on 25.5gallons: 17.18MPG

Zero miles till empty and 438 miles:

25.5 Gallons (@$84! :yikes: ):

This was the odometer from the other day as I quickly snapped a 16K mile pic. I would estimate that ~125miles of this tank was city driving.

Could have been 539(not even sure if it's possible) miles as I remember 23 mpg between Idaho Falls and somewhere Nevada... Yes it was from fumes to fumes.

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I have had my X for almost a year now and discovered this forum by accident really. Needless to say I didn't hesitate to join as it's an excellent site.

Anyway, in relation to the thread....

My X is doing approx 25mpg with everyday use. That's driving to work & back (26 mile round trip) on a relatively busy road with a few stops along the way.
On longer trips I have recorded 33mpg and its prettyaccurate.

It's a 3.0d - Sounds high compared to some of the numbers posted on here but I would regard myself as an 'average Joe' speed wise so i don't flog it.....well 99% of the time anyway. Numbers are accurate.....
Once a week it gets to haul my 10x5x6ft box trailer to the bike track with an MX bike, generator, power washer etc etc which usually yields about 18mpg if i'm lucky.....
