EDIT - The pics below are of my headlights that Bernie requested to make sure we have the same "problem" ;) These are the only ones I have on this computer, so no closeups, but it shows the headlights enough to tell them apart from Philly's projectors from the 1st post.

Thanks James,
Looking at your h/lights I'd say ours are identical. I haven't taken too many close up pics of the front, mainly because of the h/lights units being all orange cornered, non hid and no A/eyes but I'll post up a pic or two soon.
Thanks again,

Bernie (X Foomph)

Since this thread has turned to discussing non-HID (Xenon) headlights, what are you guys doing about auto-leveling of the headlights?

I would really like to add HID headlights to our 3.0i, but am worried about not having auto-leveling of headlights and blinding other drivers. I had a brief email to eBay seller roveractive on his Xenon Retrofit. He told me that his kit, for $1550 including stock headlights, includes everything for a complete retrofit as if it came out of the factory. He also added that if our X5 doesn't have headlight washers, which it doesn't, we are going to need to have that added also. This seems like a straight forward install with just getting ballasts and headlights, but the lack of auto-leveling is bugging me on this issue!

What makes you assume you need self leveling in order to have HID headlights? As long as they're adjusted correctly, they'll have the same height and pattern as your halogen or other people self-leveling headlights, you finally be just as bright now. I've put HID's in about 5 different cars now, and 2 sets being in my current BMW's w/o self leveling...never had a problem yet. I recently put HID fogs into the X5 for $60 shipped, so now I just need to get some projector headlights and put HID's in them.

I know it isn't a necessity to have self leveling as you can adjust them correctly. I'm worried about the times I will need self leveling, such as times with more passengers in the rear or some type of heavy cargo in the rear. Our 3.0i doesn't have rear air suspension, so it isn't able to keep the rear at the same height when more weight is added. On these occasions, I'm worried about my headlights being pointed up too high and blinding other drivers.

Am I making any sense or am I worrying too much about this?

I understand. The cars that have headlights and foglights on the same plane, full size trucks towing a trailer (WAY worse than you w/ a few people in the back) or the guy who's got one headlight in the sky bother me more than some HID's that might be slightly off adjustment. Both the X5 and the M5 have self leveling, the 7 doesn't, but I never even worried or thought about in the 7, which is the one I pile friends in when going out.

www.hidextra.com using coupon code "besthid-m" in the checkout area so you'll get it for $60 w/ free shipping. Also, make sure to ask for the free resistors so they include them when they ship the HID kit. This is where I bought the HID's for my foglights.
