BTW, how did you remove the top of the center console? I'm still looking for a DIY... Thanks.

Mrbmwx5, is it easy to work with this fabric.?

Would you considder yourself handy working with things like this, or should it be easy enough for anyone.?

Im thinking about getting the Cf on without air bubbles and folding the edges for a nice fit...

NOTE: dont buy the silver one... It look all most like light gold.

I had been looking at an actual fabric showcasing a CF based weave offered on eBay.

How does this differ from what you've installed on your X5, or is it the same thing just named differently by the vendor?

Nice job on yours....Mine needs some reworking at the center console...

I think you guys have gotten confused between the carbon fiber vinyl that mrbmwx5 used and the carbon fiber fabric that was brought up.

What mrbmwx5 used is 3M DI-NOC CA-421 which is a very high quality, textured vinyl. This vinyl has no gloss to it and is matte, with a very nice type of adhesive that is very forgiving when you mess up. The only downside is the cost of it.

Carbon fiber fabric has been around longer than the 3M vinyl and looks similar to the 3M vinyl besides having an adhesive. The vinyl will probably stretch better than the fabric for tight bends, but with enough patience, a fabric install will seem fine. The adhesive people use for the fabric is usually 3M Super 77, a spray glue. If in the US, I would buy from here. This type of vinyl is very easy to use....like Minzguy said it's forgiving if you mess up it can be reused with enough patience.
just cut the sheet to about 1 inche wider then the trim then using the heat gun or hair dry to head it up then bend / fold the edges .If you get an air bubbles just seemly heat it up and pill the vinyl up the work your way around the vinyl then push the pubbles out.

Looks great, never thought about that. All you had to do was apply an adhesive,or does the CF have it pre-applied?

mrbmwx5 01-09-2010 11:34 AM

The CF have adhesive pre-applied.
