The X5 nav retrofit kit is not listed due to the little brackets being NLA from BMW. You can order the E39 nav kit and you can ask them to supply the X5 kit instead less the brackets. The navigation retrofit without the brackets is listed on the home page if xoutpost

http://www.Xoutpost.com/articles/all...-retrofit.html

here is the section of that page that talks about those NLA pieces

BMW makes a pair of adaptor brackets (part numbers are 65900140347 and 65900140348) that are designed to simply bolt into place to give you all of the mounting points you need to retrofit the nav screen. (Update: Note that it appears that BMW has discontinued the availability of these brackets. Refer to the zip tie method above if you are unable to buy these from your dealer

I forgot one important thing! If I buy the system you are selling on bimmernav.com I know it comes with the radio module. So that means that if I buyt the entire system youre selling, I will have navigation system and regular radio. If I want I can buy the 6 Disc CD change, correct? Do I have to buy the 6 Disc CD changer if I want to get the Ipod Dice Link? I dont know where the Dice Link is connected to...if to the radio module, the computer, or the 6 Disc CD Changer. Please let me know.

Why on earth are you installing a 10 year old Navigation system that isn't that great to begin with?! Man oh man...:dunno:

What's the cost of this retrofit?

Have you considered an aftermarket option?

Honestly, good point. You made me think for a minute. Here's what I'm dealing with.

My stereo recently went out. I started another thread on this forum, where I explain what happened. To make a stor a short, one day I heard lots of static coming from a rear speaker. Following day from a sufferer speaker. Third day I almost had a heart attack because of a loud pop, after that no sound has been heard from my stereo. After a few responses I was told that the stereo had died on me and a replacement was needed!

Well it's been over a month if not longer. I'm going insane listening to my thoughts, and my thoughts alone from my commute from home to work and back. I started to look for replacement stereos on eBay, but with no luck. Ended up looking on realoem.com and it's priced at like 800 somethig.

I figured if i'd be spending that much on a oem radio I might as well upgrade to oem mkiv navigation system.

Input and ideas are welcomed. Just tired of being alone with my thoughts, lol.

Bimmernav.com - $2795.00 (ouch)
eBay - found a complete system for 1899.00

would definately consider aftermarket. Suggestions? Let me know

You could go with pretty much any double din Nav unit of your preference. You will need a trim kit. This is the one I went with. Its great quality and I found it the best looking out of all of the trim kits.

00-06 BMW X5 SERIES E53 DOUBLE DIN RADIO INSTALL KIT! - eBay (item 320446852936 end time Feb-07-10 10:44:46 PST)

The unit I went with is a Kenwood DNX9140. Not cheap but does Nav, has voice control, and has pre outs for 5.1 sound.

I hear what you are saying, but honestly, I've had my 2001 X5 since new and I was never impressed with the NAV system. Having all of the functions of the car integrated into the NAV screen is nice, but thats the only benefit.

Running the wiring harness for the NAV system is a huge process. Do you feel comfortable removing the seats in your car? You are going to have to remove the carpet too.

So have you diagnosed if its a amplifier or head unit? It sounds like your amp went out. You should be able to find a much cheaper part from a junkyard or Ebay before spending $800....

I also have a Acura RL which had a top of the line NAV system in 2005 for what was out there. Compared to the hand held units from Megallan or Garmin, it pales in comparison. Technology is just changing so fast these days.

If it were me, I'd find a used amp (or whatever other part you need) and save your $$$. Go on vacation :)

Chris

I have not looked into the amplifier to see if thats gone...First off I dont know if my X5 has an amplifier...where should it be located? If I find out that its the amp thats gone, that I would just replace that! Thanks for the tip. Will def look into it, hope someone can let me know where the amp will be if I have one.

Ive also been talking to another member on here, whose selling his navigation system. Hes looking for 1100.00 for the kenwood double din radio, sat, bluetooth, tv tuner, cd changer, and ipod adaptor. Would have to look into the bezel that another member posted about from ebay.
