I just use a thin snap blade knife extended out 2-3" and saw through while pulling away. Heat to reactivate to reinstall

Good tip, thanks. Like Andrew, I have generally used a knife with a new blade. Pull the barrier just a bit, cut the adhesive with several short, shallow strokes….rinse and repeat all the way around. A heat gun works great to get it back on.

I think the oscillating tool is quite a bit faster and cleaner... this was on the first regulator replacement I participated on. I do know it was less effort... I saw my friend, who had done a ton of these, struggling. I think the blade I used is called a scraper. An advantage is you get it underneath the seal and press on the metal and can keep going around until you hit an uneven section on the door.

It was warm enough when we reinstalled in the summer Southwest that we didn't have to use a heat gun, lol

I've made my own scraper blade for the "shaky tool" by cutting the teeth off a worn out saw blade with an angle grinder.

Great idea, Andrew! The ones I've used have an edge but aren't super sharp. I think if the blade is too sharp it would risk scratching the paint.

They make shorter ones, but I think those would be more awkward to use in this situation.

That's the exact tool. I've made my own vs. buy since i get plenty of worn out blades.

I'm not sure what is an "oscillating tool" but between the WD40 and a box cutter I got it off the door. Eventually. With melted-butyl smears everywhere. Glad I had the foresight to bring some latex gloves...

I'm going to wait for the first warm day, park the beast in the sun so that door when open gets hit with sun, pull the door card and let it bake awhile before trying to remove the old one (if it's still there).

Have not heard of that brand. Please post your thoughts when and if you go with it. I had to do a carrier earlier this year, and its twin on the other door is just as old as the one I replaced.
