Vinyl is actually going to be more permanent than paint when it comes to interior trim. It will resist scratches better, will stretch a bit to expand and contract under different temperatures and overall will just hold up better.
So I'd say Vinyl is the way to go. Paint is going to need touch up, scratch repair etc.. |
RB, I have been thinking about doing 2-tone interior for my iS. I think either silver or Imola red door inserts, with Brush Black trim. If and when I decide to do so, I'll let you know.

Tam that would look awesome, I was actually thinking what if you did the door pieces and the dash pieces by the steering wheel in the same silver or imola, then do the console, ashtray and rear cupholder brush black?
Would keep the trims at eye level in one color and then the console etc be your other tone. The possibilities are endless! Going to order myself an E39 retrofit illuminated leather shift knob kit from Tischer to put in with my UUC SSK, and new 5 spd insert as I don't want m badge. That will hold me over till I do my trims :) |

The tips look crooked in the pic showing straight on in your driveway, but it might just be the pic.
Prop, I'm looking to do this knob in my X5 but tough to tell what kind of illumination, the picture looks red, I have to do more research and cross reference part numbers, what cars had red illumination besides your 540? M-Tech Illuminated Gear Knob This is the cross reference when the part # in that link is ran on RealOEM, I looked at the pics in the link again and it does look red illuminated: E30: Details on E30 E30 318i Convertible E32: Details on E32 E32 735i Sedan E34: Details on E34 E34 M5 3.6 Sedan E34 525i Sedan E34 530i Sedan E34 535i Sedan E36: Details on E36 E36 M3 Sedan E36 M3 Convertible E36 318i Convertible E36 318i Sedan E36 318is Coupe E36 320i Sedan E36 323i Coupe E36 323i Convertible E36 325i Sedan E36 325i Convertible E36 325is Coupe E36 328i Coupe E36 328i Convertible E36 328i Sedan E36 M3 Coupe Z3: Details on Z3 Z3 Z3 M Roadster Z3 Z3 M Coupe |
