So, Now what about the catalytic converters? They hydro locked your motor with oil..... Which they did! Indicated by the smoke in your exhaust, then a seized motor caused "most likely" by a bent or broken rod. Your cats are probably swimming in oil. And damage to your 02's has probably happened too. You "unfortunately" are dealing with more than just an engine swap. Your issue is, you can't prove anything cause you cant see the oil in your cats, or on your 02's. I hope you thought this through..... I would have tried to settle for money and let them deal with the remains of their mistake.
just my 2 cents. |
Bavarian Auto Recycling is selling off all the Sonnen equipment (used for engine rebuilds). this stuff was for sale quite a while ago so I am not sure they are still doing the rebuilds.
GL though. |
There is a lot to be said for getting the X back that you bought. I don't think you made a mistake and the purchase prices they offered were not realistic to your situation. Now that they are going to rebuild your engine just ask them if they have checked downstream of the engine such as the above and verified the oil didn't do further damage. Have they provided anything for you to drive while the X is in the hospital?
|
Any updates on this? How is the rebuild coming?
|
Yikes. Id have in writing that they will work on it for FREE for at least two years when it comes to the affected areas. Engine, exhaust, and all sensors that are in those systems. From Engine to Exhaust. Hope they are getting you in order.

UPDATE: So, I'm not sure how I feel at this point, I keep thinking back to when the service advisor said that they "will make good on this" and "[they] will take care of me". It is coming up on the 3 month anniversary of BMW's engine oil change fu** up. After the Insurance company came up with a repair option and price they were willing to pay out for the job to get done which was $3600 short of what BMW Northwest wanted for the job, BMW Northwest had the nerve to ask me to fit half the uncovered amount which would come to 1700ish out of my pocket for "THEM" to rebuild my engine.
So, let me make this absolutely clear.. my $100 oil change is now going to be a $1700 oil change? WTF. Now, because I refused to pay that amount they went with option B which is to ship my engine down to California to have the Job done at Bavarian Auto Recycling (which I have herd is shutting down). So as a Manager at a grocery store I am a professional in customer service and if I made a customer unhappy I would eat what ever cost it is to make them happy. That is the basic fundamentals of CUSTOMER SERVICE. Now lets look at what BMW Northwest is doing... They went to there insurance company who is going to pay out an amount to fix my car outright one way or another. So, BMW is not taking any loss whatsoever on this issue. Instead, they were going to get paid to do a job that that is THERE FAULT, and they aren't willing to absorb the extra amount, instead they put out there had to me asking to cough up $1700! Absolute BULL S***. Now lets talk about this "5 year portable warranty" that this company (BMR) claims to stand behind. This company is in California and I am in Washington state. If anything goes wrong with in the first 2 years I am suppose to rely on a junk yard to stand behind their work from a different state. Sounds to me like BMW is shifting the liability over to Bavarian Motor Recycling. I think it is time to call BMW North America and express my concerns if they haven't already read this. Personally I feel better about BMW doing the work locally, and covering me under warranty for two years (locally). Oh, Don't let me forget, BMW has postponed any work on my car until after another car under warranty has its engine rebuilt first. So, now, My car is on the back burner in which they have just wasted the entire spring season of my potential home/yard prep for the summer (hobby). Thoughts? |
a broken vessel will not hold the wine, no matter how well you glue it together, who glues it and glue that is used...
unless the car is "refurbished" at the factory to full factory specs, you will never know for sure if that little noise coming from the front is due to normal course of events or the job poorly executed... |
I was hoping for a happy ending......
Your dealership doesn't want to take any loss. I think they might even want to make a little profit out of their screw-up. Also, I have a question: for the last 3 months or so, the car is in the dealership yard somewhere, probably in the rain, sun etc. Depreciating every day. In the meantime you still pay the monthly for it, correct? I would think, the dealership should also eat the "monthly" cost whatever it is. You're not driving it, but you pay the bill and you eat up the depreciation every day the clock is ticking. You probably pay insurance and registration too. For what? Your dealership doesn't care, and the insurance company goes by the numbers. Time for your lawyer maybe. And I would not hesitate to make a call to the local press as well. So people know where to shop and which place to avoid. |
I can't complain to much about my car payment, maybe about my insurance, but they do have me in a 2013 328i which is very nice. I'm not yet ready to drop the bomb of lawyers or press until something happens after I get my motor and car back. I do have a long distance trip planed in mid August, we will see how she holds up. Yet the waiting game continues....
